Everything you need to know about the current American political practice, summed up in one neat line:

Which trend if I may ask?

I feel you A-Rod - don't want to lose the tax cut coming your way if Bush stays. You could really use the extra emmmmm.........$2.7M tax cut for extra curricular activities.

It is a Win-Win situation for Trumpy. Why choose sides when you don't have to.

    Ben Lopezd - Kucinich? Gigli!

Karl Malone - no surprise there.

Charles Barkley (who intends to "run" for Governor of Alabam (?) someday AS A REPUBLICAN) - big surprise.

Karl Rove - Job security. no news there.

Bill Gates - no surprise (rooting for the only party and president that stood [and still standing] by them during the anti-trust debacle).

Mary Cheney - only $850? Don't want to draw attention to the big Harliburton "payoffs"? Common you can do better.

    Consider this...

Bush is currently spending about $8 million a week on advertising plus he's already put $50 million into ground organization trying to compete with the Dems on voter turnout... and looking at the state-by-state polls, he would lose tomorrow by about 100 electoral votes.

Assuming he buys advertising at a similar clip and has to continue to pump money into the ground organizations, just between now and the end of July he'll spend well over $100 million.

My suspicion is that if at that point he's not looking like a lock and the Dems are looking competitive in at least one of the houses, the money starts to dry up... folks willing to plop down $2000 at that point will have already contributed. I don't think it's an absolute certainty that Bush carrries his money advantage into the September/October timeframe. On the other hand, I am certain that there is a bunch of soft money out there at their disposal whenever they need it.

Welcome back Tree... where are you?

I'm very glad places like opensecrets.org exist. For a long time, the information was available but a real pain in the ass to get. This makes it a lot easier to see just who and what people are spending their money on politically.

    Man - that's a ton of money.

These bribes really need to be banned.

Amen. I couldn't care less who Charles Barkley or Maury Povich is supporting, but having access to information like that is a great idea.

Eliminating these bribes would be better, of course.

Me, too, but strangely enough I didn't see many Waltons from Arkansas ponying up money for the Democrats.

I searched my zip code and found a woman who contributed under TWO NAMES, for example:

    Betty Smith $2,000

    Betty Smith-Johnson $2,000

    Same address... same candidate

    There's some cheaters out there.

    edit:

Found another one where COLLEGE STUDENTS contributed $2000! I don't know about you guys, but when I was in college I never had $2,000, much less and EXTRA two grand to be giving to a political campaign. Oh, wait, this explains it. Each was from the same address, as was another $2,000 from their mother and father... technically not illegal, but shady just the same.
