Special teams player, played a lot on defense for Patriots too. Bellicheck loved him, Pats moved on him from though without Bill.

Most of what I remember about Derrick Brown is when he played at Auburn. He looked twice as wide as everyone else on the field and was very difficult to block.

It will cost some money but trading for and extending him would put the D-line in a very strong position. I just can't see the Panthers letting him go after the Brian Burns debacle they are (rightfully) getting blasted for.

When you think of paying him $20+ million, is he worth #42 or #59? Probably not in Caserio's mind.

What about the extra second we acquired? Or a third and later round pick?

    Who wouldn't?

But there are no guarantees in the draft. Brown is a proven stud, on the level of a healthy Armstead. That's the reason Caserio is fishing around a deal for Brown.

Once you establish his FA value, anything you have to pay a team for exclusive negotiating rights (Trade) has to come off the Player's salary. If not, you are paying two different entities for the same value. No trade should be made without a Contract agreed upon with the Player. I don't know if it requires a sign and trade or permission from the Team to negotiate AND SIGN a new deal. But verbal agreements are worthless when dealing with Athletes and their agents these days.

I don't know how we could afford him, but if they can find a way he would be awesome! He would up our defense to stealth mode. Landing a 25 year old DT who set an NFL record for most tackles by a defensive lineman in a season would be huge!!!! I can't imagine Carolina letting him go, but I'd definitely give up draft picks for him. I sure don't want to see Jerry Jones get him!

Carolina got behind most of their games. This might account for a significant disproportion of run plays by Panther opposition, ie opportunities.

Aren't they getting blasted because they waited too long on trading burns? In-season I believe the Panthers turned down offers of a 1st plus more and ended up settling for what they got when after couldn't agree to an extension. Maybe they are trying to avoid that mistake again with Brown who is also due for an extension on a really bad team. Interesting to see his name floating out there, our D-Line would be crazy if we managed to get him.
