If you were starting a team right now and had a choice of all the players in the NBA whom would you take at each spot. Granted this is supposed to be for a future team. Not just one year. So Shaq's value would drop.

    Here's mine
    PG- Steve Francis
    SG- Kobe Bryant
    SF- Dirk Nowitzki
    PF- Tim Duncan
    C- Yao

I'd switch out Kobe for T-Mac (I just don't like Kobe's attitude), and I need to see more of Yao before I put him before KG (Duncan plays the C if I'm coach).

No way I choose Ben Wallace. Undersized and useless offensively. Shaq is old.

    My team:

    Kidd
    Kobe
    KG
    TD
    Yao

Kidd, KG and Yao are pretty unselfish players so there shouldn't be any problem for them to complement the 2 "stars" Kobe and TD who take the most shots. Kobe gets the SG nod before T-Mac because he's more clutch.

He picked Ben Wallace because of his great D and rebounding. And also because the only time he would really shoot would be when he gets a garbage bucket.

You have to have a couple of players who can be effective and not have to shoot that much to do so. If not you would have turmoil.

Kidd, KG and Yao also don't need to shoot much to be effective and are generally regarded as unselfish players. TD would be my go-to guy inside with Kobe outside in my team.

Can you imagine a front line of a 7 foot 5 center, a 7 foot 1 PF and a 7 foot SF?

Plus Wallace is too old to build your future team anyway.

And Yao is also a better passer than Wallace which is important in a team of scorers.

Also, they can play zone. TD and Yao would be a block party.

Team -- or five best (youngish) players?

Team USA might just have represented the foibles of all stars all the time.

If you had Dirk at SF, no one could match up with him. KG is a great player but Dirk helps spread the offense out. With Duncan, you get a low post player obviously. Yao gives you a young guy with good passing skills and a good shotblocker with Duncan.
Kobe obviously gives you the offense, defense and most importantly the clutch player. Stevie gives an offensive player who can dish also. I'd say that you could maybe switch Steve out with a Jason Kidd or Andre Miller but I'd still stick with Franchise

Dirk for his shooting prowess would be my SF.

    My team would be:

    Kidd
    Pierce
    Duncan
    Nowitzki
    Webber

Kidd and Duncan are automatic choices. Duncan is practically a centre and if Shaq was not around would be slotting over there when D-Rob retires. Kidd, no one runs the floor better or sets up his team better. I was leaning towards Payton but today Kidd is the man.

Nowtizki picks himself for his perimeter game. When he is on, he is the best thing since Larry Bird. Spreads the floor as mentioned above. Webber despite being a soft low post player is a gifted big man with smooth play-making abilities. This guy would be an all-star pg if he was 6-6. (Wonder if he and Tyra are still together?).

Pierce is the kind of guy I admire. Hustles his arse off, doesn't take a night off, class act, humble, explosive first step, plays D, gets hammered and gets back up again and again, will lead the league in FT attempted, has the range, rebounds, doesn't have the fanfare of T-Mac or Kobe Wannabe Kenobi. I'd take this guy against anybody today!
