The Pirates have revamped their entire roster with an active off-season, while the Cubs look to keep their rotation intact for a full season. In the end, they're all still chasing St. Louis. The Cardinals remain the top squad with Albert Pujols and Chris Carpenter setting the pace, but the young Astros are ready to make another run into the playoffs. Let's get it started. http://msn.foxsports.com/fantasy/story/5331710
Chris Carpenter can't be as good as he was last year again.....can he? I'm so ready for baseball. Skip spring traing and World Tournament whatever and start the season already!
Speaking of which..... Did anyone else hear Justice the other morning talking about Baltimore backing out of a deal with the Astros that included: Lidge, Everett and Taveras in a swap for Miguel Tejada?
not sure...but that's perfect MadMax logic!!! welcome aboard! i say that kind of stuff every year about the best players on division rivals...particularly with pitchers.
I'm glad Baltimore backed out of it. Anyone else got tix for opening day....like me??? I will be in the bullpen boxes, about 20 rows behind the Astros bullpen.
It would be nice to get Tejada, but I like Taveras. I would rather give up one of the young arms in the minors to replace Taveras in that deal.
I heard it and read it recently. IMO, a decent deal for both teams. Qualls closes, Burke plays CF and Miggy hits 50 HRs. As for Carpenter...I'm sure our rivals are saying the same thing about Pettitte.
yeah, i agree. i thought it was asking a little much to include 2 starters and arguably the best closer in baseball.
I don't see how he can possibly pitch as good again this year as he did last year. His career is very up and down. Furthermore, to me, the Co-ards are quite vulnerable this year. Larry Walker retired and was replaced by the ever-mediocre Larry Bigbie. They have Junior Spivey or Deivi Cruz playing second. If Scott Rolen gets injured again and misses a significant portion of the season, the Co-ards will be lucky to finish in 3rd place in the NL Central.
I like Qualls at the end. He has proven himself in the playoffs that he doesn't get rattled out on the mound. And to top that off, he has a filthy 2-seamer and sinker. Regarding Tejada, I ask this question. If you could pinpoint the Astros prime weakness last season what would it be? I think the answer is/was, without a shadow of a doubt, our inability to drive in runs. Tejada would give us the RBI machine that this team desperately needs.
The deal I heard waseither Taveras or Lane, but yeah they've talked about that deal on 610 for a month or so. That's probably why they picked up Preston Wilson, who could play either center or right depending on whoever was traded. If the Astros felt like they had someone to replace Lidge (Wheeler??) I wouldn't have had too big a problem with the deal, as long as they received assurances from Tejada's camp that he wouldn't demand a trade at the end of the season.
I got my opening day tix. Behind Home plate ....about 1000 feet in the air. What are the odds that the Astros would sell me a custom 27 game package? I can think of 25 games I will be able to go to this year, and 2 more days I can take the day off of work for. I want playoff options baby!
Actually...this will probably work out best for me. http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/hou/ticketing/sunday.jsp "Sundays in the Park" 13-Game Plan Spend your "Sundays in the Park" this season with the Astros 13-game plan.
