Fox sports director Mark Berman spoke with Rockets' attorney Michael Goldberg while having another round of talks with China regarding Yao Ming. According to Goldberg, he is confident a deal can be worked out. Things are going well. He said, "No committments yet. A lot of discussions. Hopefully, things will be cleared up in the next couple of days. Clutch City will have some good news in a few days." He met with the commissioner of the CBA and Yao Ming. Yao and his agent also met with the CBA and the Shanghai Sharks. Moving along nicely.
I should note that Berman did not say Goldberg was returning yet and Goldberg did not indicate that. He said that Goldberg was in Korea on unrelated business and went back to China at the behest of Chinese officials. No word as to when he will return but attorneys don't say stuff like that if they aren't sure.
Once again.... Blather! Also known as lawyer speak. Say something, but don't say anything. It means nothing.
Rocket!!! - Honestly, I wouldn't say that. Goldberg is EXTREMELY cautious about the way he says things. He would NEVER indicate even remotely that a deal was close if it wasn't close. He would say things like he did before: "No discussions or anything but things are progressing." To say we'll have some "good news" in a couple of days is EXTREMELY significant on his part knowing his personality.
Thanks Jeff! One questiong though....Did he actually say,"Clutch City will..." or was that your interpretation? That'd be cool if he would mention not just Clutch City but rather ClutchCity.net!!!
If we're getting Ming, then this is expected. If this is a smokescreen, they're playing it beautifully. ROCKET!!!, I'm letting you stoke my suspicions, you better not be a disinformation agent.
SA Rocket: Yes, he did say "Clutch City" - I took that directly. Rocket!!! : I know you are trying to protect your rep, but there is a chance, however incredibly remote, that you got this one wrong. You haven't nailed anything yet. Maybe you should actually get a scoop that comes true before you act as if you have cornered the market on good information.
Jeff, Not trying to protect a rep - I just really don't care. As far as getting it right...it is, but not a lock as I have said on many occasions. My comments on Goldberg are just from experience. Been there way too many times. Nothing hautey implied.
Not doubting you here, but maybe you could clue us in as to why, suddenly, after never making broad proclamations about anything, you've suddenly become Mr. Insider. It is really out of context considering you hadn't said anything like this until we won the lotto. Just a little odd.
The thing that I find promising is that Goldberg met Yao Ming,if things were not going well,he would not have had the opportunity to meet him, however nothing can be taken for granted, but I'm glad he said Clutch City will have some good news in a few days.
Oh well, I'm tired.... Got a golf tourney tommorrow. Good cause - MD Anderson Children's Function. Civic duty and all. Night!
