It doesn't make sense to you, but it's not your 6 million!

Trent Dilfer just fetched a 4th rounder, but then again, he only gets paid $1.25 million. Still, I'd like to think that Jamie Sharper is slightly more valuable thant Dilfer.

Its absurd that you even think there is a chance that Sharper gets released.

Thats just not even a question.

The team cant afford to pointlessly let him go without getting anything in return. Better to use that cap money than to let it go to waste.

What is the possibility that this is a Casserly ploy to get reworked deals with Texans?

Maybe we can trade them to the cowboys since they are switching to 3-4 defense. We'll some more of their draft picks.

Maybe we can work something out with the Rams and get Orlando Pace in return.

Berman said tonite on Fox that both Sharper and Foreman told the Texans that if they are not able to make a trade soon then they want to be released so that they can go to a team of their choice. In addition, Sharper wanted to restructure his contract but Houston didnt want to.

Just realized - with a $6.1 mil salary for Sharper, we would almost have to get something from someone else's cap (i.e. a player(s) with a large % of Sharpier's salary) in return. People trade draft picks for players making $2 mil. There aren't many teams sitting around with $6 mil in extra cap space they'd trade draft picks for.

Keep in mind we originally got Foreman for Charlie Rogers! That was a 1 sided deal. I'd imagine if they're traded they get traded for younger players.

Wow, Sharper wants to be cut...that sucks for the Texans. We better hurry up and find a trade partner.

The only way I see us dropping Sharper is if we need to free up space for a big boy....a big boy named Orlando Pace.

    Ottoman

Its probably closer to 4-4.5 million range since some of the 6 already has been paid by Texans.

Because of how NFL contracts are usually structured, 4+ mil of cap space will get you just about any FA on the market. Provided you're willing to dish out the all-important signing bonus, of course. So it would not be pointless. If CC thinks this team can contend the upcoming season, I don't see why he wouldn't release Sharper to sign a higher impact player.

lmao at Sharper fetching a 3rd rounder.

Sharper is already at negative trade value, due to his contract, age, and value of position that he plays. Now with rumors of him being cut, why would any team give up anything to take on that contract?

He's either staying on borrowed time, being cut, or being traded for nothing of consequence.

If Pace is available for the taking, then yes, cutting would be the way to go. Otherwise, there are no free agents the Texans would go after with that kind of money.

And you're certain of this because...

I don't pretend to know just just who the Texans might be targeting in FA. I certainly didn't see the Greewood signing coming. But I do know that $4+ mil is a lot of cap space, and CC apparently feels it's better used for someone other than Sharper.

I heard a trade that what send Sharper to the Bengals for Peter Warrick may be a possibilty since Sharper really wants to get back with Marvin Lewis and Warrick is currently a 4th receiver for them behind Johnson, TJ Housamendez, Kelly Washington.

Some guy on a message board but the trade does makes sense for both sides since Texans need a wide receiver and the Bengals need defensive help.

I saw it posted on the Texans message board a few days ago, but its dated news now. The Bengals would like to add Sharper, but like other teams are waiting for his release.

    http://bengals.com/press/news.asp?iCurPage=0&news_id=2792

    Reunion interests Sharper

One of Marvin Lewis’ high-profile Super Bowl defenders is interested in re-joining him in Cincinnati, but a few things have to happen first.

Linebacker Jamie Sharper, who had 20 tackles, two sacks, and two interceptions during the Ravens’ championship postseason for Lewis in 2000, is on the trading block in Houston and he has told his agent he finds playing for Lewis again intriguing.

But Tony Agnone said Wednesday it doesn’t look promising that a trade can be struck with any team.

“We’re looking into a release,” said Agnone, the Baltimore-based agent who has a good relationship with Lewis from his six seasons there as the Ravens defensive coordinator.

“It’s up to the Texans, and obviously we’d like to get Jamie on the market as quickly as possible,” Agnone said. “He loves Marvin. He’s his guy, his mentor, whatever you want to call him. Jamie would love to be able to sit down and talk with Marvin, but he can’t and we can’t. We’ve been given permission to seek a trade, but not permission to talk.”

Agnone wouldn’t comment when asked if he had approached the Bengals about a trade, but he indicated they are one of the teams leading Sharper’s list.

Sharper, who turns 31 late in the season, has never missed an NFL game in the eight years since Lewis helped draft him in the second round out of Virginia in 1997. He is one season removed from leading the NFL in tackles with 195 and in each of three seasons with the Texans he has had at least 137 tackles.

The 6-3, 240-pound Sharper, who works mainly on the inside, is an athletic ball hawk who would also help the Bengals raise themselves from No. 26 in NFL run defense. Although Houston is moving in a different direction at backer, Sharper is coming off a 137-tackle season in which he returned one of his two fumble recoveries for a touchdown. He’s also got 25 career sacks.

Agnone anticipates Sharper playing on the left, or strong side, if he ended up in Cincinnati, but also said he could play the middle because of his experience playing inside in the Texans’ 3-4 alignment.

“I think the thing he wants to do is to be able to sit down with Marvin,” Agnone said. “But that can’t happen yet and we’re hoping things move along.”
