GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Former NBA player and University of Florida standout Vernon Maxwell has been jailed in north Florida.

Alachua County authorities jailed Maxwell on Wednesday for violation of probation charges related to failing to pay child support, according to online jail records. A message left with a sheriff's office spokesman was not immediately returned.

During his 13-year NBA career, Maxwell helped the Houston Rockets win NBA titles in 1994 and 1995. Maxwell, a three-time all-Southeastern Conference selection, played at Florida from 1985-88.

Maxwell's attorney, Robert Rush, said child support payments were set when Maxwell was still a professional athlete and he can no longer meet the financial demands.

Rush called the matter a "sad and a recurring problem."

he's probably still better than this year's Tmac.

If Les had loyalty, he'd bail Maxwell and sign him to a contract, so he can pay off his child support, and hit some game winning shots for us!

Say hi to T.I. for us Max!
We still love you, to hell with those suckers!

I remember years ago after playing for the Rockets, whatever team he was with at the time had a game in Florida and Maxwell didn't fly with them because of that issue.

Sorry, but to me, that's the part that needed the bold and red.

What did Vernon do for the Rockets in 1995 besides running into the stands or trying to ruin team chemistry?

NOV/DEC 1994 he was still contributing, but 1995 was when he lost all of my respect.

    Pre-game tip-off handshakes, circa 1995:

    Avery Johnson: "God bless You."

Vernon Maxwell: "**** you mother*******, this is a mother******** basketball game, God aint got ****-all to do with it."

As recounted by Larry Platt in "Keeping it Real."

dude, he forged team chemistry when he left. nobody hated Vernon, his teammates knew he wasn't happy with his contract situation and Clyde taking his job.

He's Vernon Maxwell not AC Green.

That is hysterical. Loved Maxwell's attitude and defense... loved it, but man he could shoot you in or out of a game in a HURRY. Imagine if the BBS existed back then and he's taking 13-14 shots a game at 39%-30% when highly efficient offensive players like Kenny Smith and Otis Thorpe are getting 9 a pop. It's the Rafer situation on crack.

Maybe only second to the 'Kenny Smith/Sam Cassell - who should start?' debates in the 'What if Clutchfans existed back then...' rankings.

What a waste. I loved Mad Max on the court but Vernon Maxwell off of it just hasn't been a good human. They guy had the talent to be an All Star and had the money to live a successful life but he just couldn't hold it together.

Its always sad to think about guys like him and Eddie Griffin.
