How many among these 10 can be considered top 10 players in the league? 2? Shows you that it is not uncommon for teams to make mistakes and give away big contracts that will look silly in a few years (or in Shar's case from the beginning).
Shard is just ridonculously ridiculous from the very beginning I always thought the Randolph contract was the worst though if he didn't have that great year last year in memphis. I mean he was literally not doing jack for any team he was playing with. Injury induced bad contracts such as Mac's, Redd's and Arenas' are unfortunate, but Shard like bad contracts are just stupid
These salaries are a little misleading. They aren't really performance based, a max deal, is a max deal. The max you can make depends on how long you've been in the league, and how long you've been a max player. So no matter how much better Melo, LeBron, and Wade are they've only been in the league since 2003. 1.Kobe 1996 2.Rashard 1998 (still almost fully maxed, magic were desperate so they overpaid) 3.Garnett 1995 (wasn't maxed in last deal, or would be making more than kobe) 4.Duncan 1997 5.Redd 2000 6.Gasol 2001 7.Kirilenko 1999 8.Arenas 2001 9.Yao 2002 10.Randolph 2001
To be fair Michael Redd was trying to get back to his former self, he even was able to do a little bit for the olympics. His injuries are just so devastating that he wont get back to his oldself. I know he's not a 20mil type of player but if it weren't for his injuries he could/did avg 20+pts a game and break out for 30+ or 40+ some nights. Ya if you haven't noticed I used to be a Michael Redd fan..
I don't think Arenas or Redd were ever worth the contracts they signed. They benefit from having injuries to hide behind.
Meh, Duncan and Yao shouldn't be on this list, seeing as how they are in their last years of their respective contracts. Yao and Duncan are two of highest paid because when they signed the deals, it was right to give them that amount of money. And agreed, Rashard Lewis delivers on the lulz.
