I don't think that's a very appropriate comparison. An 0-1 start in the NFL means you weren't at the top of your game on one day. 0-6 in the NBA means you are one of the worst teams in the league, and that you played like ass on six different occasions.

Has an NBA team made the playoffs after starting 0-6?

This is a perfect example. Notice he is calling people haters when really some people just see that something is wrong and they say it. If they hated the team I doubt they would be here. This a perfect example of why flame wars start, ignorantly labeling anyone who does not agree with you a hater.

I'd like to see the Spurs or Mavs reputation if they had a massive fan base that only followed Yao or JLin and had zero basketball knowledge. Those guys took over these boards for years and though of course there are dumb real Rockets fans, there are dumb real sports fans of every team.

    Tips for a successful post:

    1) No name calling

    2) Back up a subjective statement with stats. (e.g. James Harden just doesn't start the season shooting very well. In his first season with the Rockets he shot 41%/33% from the field and 3point line in November, and 45/33, 41/34, the other two seasons. And of course through two games so far he is far worse. Whatever training he does in the offseason, isn't working.")

    3) try and relate your post back to a previous post to keep the conversation going (e.g., "DieHard Rocket, your football analogy is apt but maybe too easy on the Rockets. You're right, most people don't panic when an NFL team goes 0-1, but maybe they should when the one loss is a blowout. In our case, we've been blown out three times, and once to a relatively poor team. For that reason, I think this is worse than an NFL team that starts 0-1.")

    4) take the time to upvote good posts (and that doesn't necessarily mean the ones you agree with)

There are always going to be trolls, but we can always work on the good post : troll post ratio.

    Thanks for starting this thread.

Austin is not neutral at all. Everyone in Austin is pretty much a Spurs fan.

While I wholeheartedly agree with the spirit of your post and points 2-5, this one is a bit off. Starting a game down by four, your goal is merely to win -- to score at least one more point than your opponent. Unfortunately, a 42-40 record won't get us into the playoffs. Since our actual goal this regular season is a good enough record to land us home court advantage in a round or two, we're going to need somewhere around 55 wins.

I'm not going to do the math to calculate the equivalent (because I can't - ha!), but going 55-24 from this point forward is substantially more difficult than going 42-37.

Every loss hurts in a quest for HCA in such a deep conference, and this poor start may sink our chances at that if we don't turn it around quickly.

Not true at all. Its a huge mix bag of fans here. Plenty of Rockets, Spurs, Mavericks and Lakers fans.

If neither a 0-3 start or an 3-0 start really matter, and I agree, that doesn't mean we all wouldn't have preferred the undefeated option that doesn't matter. Especially when you consider the first two were at home.

I can tell you this, only a hardcode fan would put money on the Rockets to win a championship after this start because nobody in their right might would.

So in the NFL, if you win the next game after a 0-1 start, you are equivalent to winning 6 straight NBA games to even your record?

That doesn't sound right. Winning an NFL game is not the same as winning 6 NBA games in a row. Or winning 12 MLB games in a row. It's a lot harder to win 6 straight NBA games than to win a single NFL game. Same with losing.

Trill... Rockets fans are very sensitive bc of the hate the team receives so we are always in defense mode..

if crazy is 100 degrees, i feel like this board is only at maybe 70.

and if you're not upset after these 3 20pt losses in a row,,, maybe the crazy one is you.

My point was really that there is a lot of time to turn things around and we are not eliminating ourselves from a top 3 or 4 seed, similar to an NFL team losing it's first two games - no doubt we're in a hole and it is worrysome, but teams go through ebbs and flows through the season (last season notwithstanding...we were spoiled with no long losing streaks).

Now if we are .500 or below at the end of November, I'll be more worried.
