I started this thread after my mother cooked me a meatloaf last night. I remember when I was a kid, I used to hate when she would tell me that we were having meatloaf for dinner. That all changed once I grew up and moved out of the house. Now it is one of my favorite dishes and I call her regularly to fix me one. I guess Eddie Murphy was right. :D LOL!

After thinking about this, I thought about all the other foods I hated when growing up but now enjoy when I can have them. These included pot roasts, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, cabbage, mushrooms, sushi, fresh fruits and veggies, and diet sodas. I would even mention water but I don't know too many kids who would take water over the multitude of sugary drink choices they have these days or in the past.

I'm sure there are others but that is my partial list. What are some of your own?

Mushrooms. They seemed so slimy and nasty as a child. Now I love them.

I believe I have always enjoyed greens but add squash and zucchini to my list as well.

I remember waking up on Sunday morning when I was a kid and there would be this awful smell coming from the kitchen. Moms was cooking chitterlings or chitlins as my mom would say. This is one food that I don't think I will ever be able to enjoy.... :(

Oh my, I remember my dad cooking these. The stench from these bad boys is awful! Never have tried but I would be willing to if somebody else cooked them in their own home. :D

Asparagus. I hated it growing up.

    Now? Cooked with some butter?

    Amazing stuff.

I hated collard greens, and now I just simply dislike them. Ditto black eyed peas. Yuck.

I'll give you the most shocking one: Steak.

My Dad burned the hell out of them. I honestly would ask myself "why would anyone pay so much for this crap?"

And then I tried one at a restaurant.

Considering I grew up on pop tarts and lunchables... as a kid I hated everything I eat now as an adult.

I have known 2 children like that, one was my nephew and the other is a little boy I babysit sometimes.

My nephew is now 17 and still won't eat but a handful of types of food, most of it junk food.

The little boy is only 5 but he is slowly trying new things.

I hope one day they both grow out of it and eat a variety of different foods. We'll see.....
