With Lent here I will be making alot of tuna. I was just wondering if anyone has any good variations to try? I usually have to have the albacore white tuna, miracle whip, eggs, pickles, celery and green onions (a must).

    Without tuna.

    It's called a dinner salad.

I usually just eat a package of the chunk light with a big spoonfull of hot dill relish and thats it. I need to try the albacore again. It seems like most people prefer it but I didn't remember it being all that good.

While this isn't tuna, this is a damn good recipe for someone on lent.

    Smoked Salmon Dip

This is sooo easy, it's crazy. Best part is, it fooled native Alaskan's who'd been eating fresh smoked salmon all their life. Very good!

    Ingredients:

1 4 oz. can salmon (that's right, canned)
1 8 oz. block cream cheese
    1 tsp. dried onion flakes
    1/4-1/2 tsp. liquid smoke

    Directions:

Mix the salmon, cream cheese, and onion flakes together. Add liquid smoke to taste (closer to 1/4 tsp. than 1/2 tsp.)

Serve with water crackers, or toast points.

That sounds awesome! I should have asked for ideas for recipes for Lent in the original post.

You don't have to give up anything. Generally folks make some sort of sacrifice which may involve giving up candy, sweets, sodas, alcohol, etc. Some folks choose to do more volunteer work, save money by taking their lunch to work and then giving it to a charitable organization.

On Fridays, Catholics are asked to abstain from meat. On Ash wednesday and Good Friday, Catholics are asked to abstain from meat and fast (with fasting being defined as one meal and two other 'meals' that don't add up to one meal...in additon, you are asked not to snack between those 'meals').

Folks with health issues have dispensation to not fast.

I think FFB was asking SWTsig for a contribution so to speak.

I'm just seeing what people gave up, so I can show appropriate recipes.

Usually I just make it like you have up there (and subtract the egg... ick). Other times, I'll mix the albacore tuna with mayo, but then add some chopped pecans/walnuts and either dice an apple or add some dried cranberries... a nice variation.

I gave up cokes (sodas). But I think people would probably be interested in meatless dishes/recipes for Fridays when everyone is supposed to abstain from eating meat. So seafood, cheese, or vegetarian dishes would work.
