Can't stand tailgaters like the dude. Endangering other people on the road just so they can speed. I hope she got a better laugh than what was on the video. Just glad that idiot didn't run into someone else.
Regardless of which one was being the bigger idiot, you do realize she traveled roughly 2 miles during the recording - correct? When was that 'turn in half a mile'? In addition, while there was plenty of traffic in the right lane near the end of the video, there was plenty of room near the beginning for her to move over. Even if she wasn't at fault, she escalated a situation needlessly. You don't see anything wrong with her driving one handed and not fully concentrating on her driving during this rainy period with slick roads?
Was she supposed to stop and render aid? From looking this up, the "left-lane-only-for-passing" law varies from state to state. In some states you can stay in the left lane as long as the speed limit is below 65. In others you have to move over only if you're going below the speed limit. It looks like in Florida, you're required to move to the right lane if you're going slower than the flow of traffic (note, not necessarily the speed limit) unless you're passing vehicles or about to make a left turn : http://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2011/316.081 I'd be interested in seeing what, if anything, comes of this story/video.
on texas highways it is. it's also poor driving etiquette to overtake someone on their right side, so making someone do that by hogging the left lane is poor etiquette.
In other news the traction control on that big F 250 King Ranch is awful -- it wasn't that wet out there and it looked almost like he hit ice.
So the guy tailgated her for a minute beforehand. He tailgated her for two minutes of the recording. And within those 3 miles, she couldn't find a window to change lanes. She deserves some scorn as well, but depending on the laws, she might be safe.
Someone said something similar in the last big driving thread; assume everyone's a bad driver. If the road conditions were bad, you don't take stupid risks to claim moral high ground. You signal and coast until you can change lanes behind those trucks. You lose your story, but you also don't become a factor in a douche crashing, as much as he may "deserve" it. Good for her if she thinks she's an agent of change, but this is gonna inspire more people to record while driving, which sucks.
If she was driving 60, he'd have to speed up 70 to overtake her in time. Except you could see she's the dumb **** type that matches the speed of the passer, so he could easily gone beyond 75 before she let her foot off the pedal. That plus the distraction plus the size of his truck on top of the slick road made it so that he over steered and lost control of his car. It was mostly the speed driven though...
Both drivers are morons...her for filming and blocking the passing lane, him for trying to show her up and almost hitting traffic head on.
What an idiot. He let that fat b**** phase him. Cost him his truck. Any time you see a poor driver, assume its a b****, look inside if you get the chance then laugh and move on when youre right. If you cant brush it off then youre not a man. One other thing, houston traffic has been utter **** lately. It gets worse every year. Dont other cities have job opportunities?
Both idiots, but I think the woman is the bigger idiot. Usually I have a '**** you stupid speeders and tailgaters' attitude, but the self-righteousness of sharing a video in which you yourself exhibit substandard behavior is too much. If she can't speed up to get over she could slow down to get over. And filming while driving and claiming a safety precaution for driving slow in the rain is the height of hypocrisy. If she were really a safe driver, this thread wouldn't exist. The tailgater might have driven dangerously, but at least he didn't try to tell me he was better than other people.
Exactly. People get so indignant over something that is fleeting. Would you rather be right and in the ditch or just move over and get on with your life? And I guarantee you he wasn't using the left lane as a passing lane. He was going to speed above the speed limit the entire time down that lane, tailgating everyone else along the way.
One person in the left lane can cause hundreds of people to get congested on the free way. I don't see why so many people feel the need to defend their 'right' to make everyone else go their pace.
you mean he would be passing slower traffic while in the passing lane? sounds like he would be using it as a passing lane to me, there's no need to get out of the lane if you aren't impeding traffic
Actually, you do. If the lane is for passing then you pass and then move to the right. The law does not state that you can stay there as long as you drive faster than everyone. https://www.txdot.gov/driver/share-road/highway-driving.html
You're not supposed to use it as a travel lane. Once you pass, you're supposed to get back into the non-passing lane(s).
