    Under Ron DeSantis,
Because parents were not notified that they children would be shown a picture of David, one of the most significant pieces of art in Western Civilization, some parents were very upset....ironically as predicted by the Simpsons over 20 years ago:

So the principal gets fired thank you very much Ron DeSantis for protecting woke parents from Michelangelo's profanity.

Another sensationalist thread. One, it’s misleading…two…why are we so disproportionally focused on something that amounts to an very small number of cases? (Paging fchowder)

Funny. The article says she was asked to resign about not giving notice about David. The person who asked her to resign confirms this. It was not about David, but notice that David would be taught. Which is exactly what @Sweet Lou 4 2 said.

While this itself is just stupidly funny (that a Christian school can't handle a biblical figure), what Florida law has done isn't insignificant. Although I don't think it applies to private schools, the laws there have empowered a single parent to demand a review of books and topics. All it takes is one person to impose their standards on everyone else. I heard Florida got some very special people.

It isn't a Christian school. It is a Charter school, which is a public, not private school

Ah, you're right. I got confused when I read the comments from the board chair. Well, then the FL laws do apply here.

But everyone said these laws by DeSantis wouldn't result in things like censorship and cancel culture...they said this was about pushing back against "wokeness"

The new laws in Florida under DeSantis are definitely enabling censorship and cancel culture. They allow the state and individuals to review any book or topic they don't like, and as a consequence, any person who doesn't align with their values. I mentioned this in another thread about tolerance. Laws pushed by Republicans have incentivized censorship and cancel culture. If we want a more tolerant culture, we should start by making our laws more tolerant instead of less tolerant, and by encouraging fairness, ethics, tolerance, individuality, community, shared values, diverse thinking, and so on.

DeSantis is the king of cancel culture. He supports it and is responsible for it more than any other politician in the nation.

I made the argument that this isn't a prediction. The Simpson's simply created a script that, at the time, seemed so absurd that it was comical. Florida has simply gotten to this level of absurdity in real life.

The parent who complained is just pissed David has a larger penis than he does.

My guess is this woman was annoying everyone and they were just looking for a pretense to get rid of her, so they used that. Otherwise, they would have found something wrong with her travel expenses or whatever.

I don't know. If I want to get rid of someone on my team, I usually look for the thing that is the least controversial, not the most.

But that person might then want to frame it as if the reason was the most controversial.
