People are strange, who drink with their daughter, but that doesn't mean they're having sex with her too.

From the article, it is really and truly weird.

Father and daughter had been separated since she was 2 years old. They bought beer @ 9 p.m. and decided to go drink it in the park. Um, okay.

Of the five attackers, she says one raped her and two others forced oral secks. Two others were bystanders. All five saying it was consensual, apparently, and that the dad had been first.

Nobody can find the gun.

One of the attackers had some pretty serious previous charges.

The father made a bad choice. You don't EVER leave your children in harm's way, even at risk of your own life. That's the ultimate sacrifice for your child. Had the father been shot for resisting, the noise and commotion would have made those rats run away.

As it is, they all survived, but she is now scarred for life.

 

Ps. The above opinion assumes rape occurred. This story is so weird. It will take some investigating to find out what's what.

Exactly. I think the bad choice of the father was maybe getting drunk with his daughter (and now there will be witnesses at the delis and via the cops), and then having sex with her in the park (now there's video).

That's just me. I don't have kids, so maybe I don't understand.

 

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — Four teen boys accused by the NYPD of gang-raping an 18-year-old woman and chasing her father away at gunpoint in Brownsville’s Osborn Playground last Friday, Jan. 8, will now be released without having to pay bail, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.

The boys will go free because the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office was not able to not meet its Friday deadline to prepare indictments against them.

“Because we are determined to get to the truth about what happened in that park, we need more time to investigate this complex case and gather more evidence,” DA Ken Thompson said in a statement.

“Therefore,” he said, “we have consented to the defendants’ release.”

What was initially portrayed by Brooklyn police and politicians as a cut-and-dry case of brutal gang-rape in a public park has been mired by claims from the boys’ defense lawyers that the sex was consensual, and that the boys saw the girl’s own father having sex with her that night, too.

Various surveillance and cellphone videos reviewed by cops in the past week have also called the young woman and her father’s narrative into question.

This is a very disturbing and confusing case and I'm going to hesitate on condemning or excusing the father until a more definitive picture comes out of this.

Speaking in general though retreat / fleeing is always the best policy in most self-defense situations. An exception though is when you are trying to protect someone with your and in this case when you cannot escape because you have to protect someone else who can't escape then resistance is the best policy. This is especially true in a public space where the noise and attention drawn to a fight can help you.

In this case, accepting the father's story for the moment, while this might mean harm to you that harm has to be counterbalanced with the certainty of harm to your daughter. That said though there are always mitigating factors like how quickly you feel you can get help to aid your daughter. For instance if you knew that just the next block there was LE then it might make more sense to get help than to try to fight it out and risk both you and your daughter's lives.

 

This whole story reads more like something from the reject pile of The Jerry Springer Show...Just wow.
