Never meeting with Brock isn't the same as Brock being forced on him. And the articles were more framed in terms of how free agency is structured or how surprising it was, not on Brock being forced by the owner. I could completely see OBrien being overconfident in his own scouting. After all he traded 5 picks for Nix and Strong (and said at the time "I guess that kind of thing wasn't done before I got here"). He signed Chicken and Shrimp because he remembers him running for 150+ yards against him in NE (was actually much less). And why would OBrien get stripped of deciding which QB he gets? But you're right it doesn't matter, especially if Savage pans out, unless McNair is really mad about paying Brock $36 million for negative production. McNair knows how it went down anyway. If OBrien wants to save his career by saying he didnt want Brock (whether true or not) doesnt affect the Texans I guess
I think O'Brien was at some pro day looking at prospects and that's why he couldn't meet; I think I read somewhere when Rick got him, he called BOB and he was at a pro day
Between Smith's Swass-Mobile and the Dimple-Copter you'd think they could arrange a meet on Cal's ranch...
This poll is hilarious. You people really must not think much of JJ Watt, if going 8-8 (at minimum) without him the entire year with a crappy QB is worthy of the coach being fired. Texans were 9-7 with Watt and better QB play and worse running game last year. If this season showed us anything, it might be that Watt is overrated/overpaid. I'll take 8-8 without Watt over 2-14 with Kubiak, Watt and Schaub.
One defensive player can only impact a game so much. You dont necessarily need a JJ Watt to have a good defense. Look at the Pats D. How many JJ Watts do they have? But that doesn't mean JJ is overrated or overpaid by any stretch. In fact, he has one of the best value contracts in the NFL.
If you want to do this comparison, at least make it somewhat comparable. The Texans with Watt under Kubiak won an average of 8 games with 2 playoff wins. The Texans with O'Brien won average of 9 with 0 playoff wins. This year, the Texans have a point differential of -44. In the past 2 years have been +26 and +65 (I doubt you care about point differential over simple win stats but on the off chance you do think that matters I list them here). Football is as much of a team game as any so I won't get into who's more important and whatnot, but if Kubiak can be fired for what he did so can O'Brien.
It's interesting the we're talking about the head coach and his faults in play calling, game management and personnel yet you fail to mention him once in your hilarious defense of him.
Yes, pointing out how many games a coach won is absolutely hilarious. It's way more subjective I guess than "play calling and game management".
Great, so Watt isn't overpaid or overrated. That only means that O'Brien is able to have the same level of success without his best, highest paid player (who's not overpaid or overrated) as he's had with him. It's not me who thinks Watt is overrated, it's the fire BOB crowd.
Mediocrity can always be justified. You must love Jeff Fisher. I think the question worth asking is why, after 3 years, does the supposed QB-whisperer still have crappy QB play?
Ding! Ding! Ding! BoB and friends have had ample opportunity to draft a QB over the past two years and did not do so. Instead, they flushed $36M down the toilet on Osweiler who has been completely outplayed by other QBs in their NFL rookie year. And you can bet that tonight, NFL Networks won't miss the chance to show him standing on the sidelines looking like a wounded deer at every opportunity. Really looking forward to listening to the talking heads drone on and on about what a colossal mistake it was to sign this doorknob.
LaCaforna with a new article. Now the anonymous sourced are claiming the coaching staff had minimal input in choosing Brock
are we to believe La Confora or you think Team BOB is leaking this out haha what an interesting season
The answer is yes. The locker room would have been lost. Smith/ McNair wanted to make a splash at the qb spot but because Obie was advocating for Hoyer and Mallett. Basically everyone is culpable here. Let the hunger games begin this off-season if the Texans don't make the playoffs.
My guess is that nobody would go. Smith has done a better than average job at getting players. I think a new coach wouldn't solve the Texans issues. It comes down to QB.
Well leaks have been a feature of the BOB regime, usually making him look good McNair at one point came out and said he didn't want anymore leaks. They stopped for a while. This leak is interesting because McNair actually knows the truth on this one, whatever it is
