I know there was a divide when XIII was released because of linear approach but I thought it was decent.

    Walk, battles, cutscene.

Rinse and repeat, i hated it. But they say this spin off gives a little freedom, towns even. So it might be worth a look.

I'm a Final Fantasy guy, I own all of them except the online games. Love them all, until 13. It's not a bad game, just highly disapointing as a FF game. I'll certainly play 13-2, but this will be the first one i hold out on buying.

I want to see a remake of FF1 -- yeah, that's right, the original... where you got to choose your character classes and party make up.

XIII was a movie with you only playin fights to reach the next cutscenes. Hated it as a FF- fan that started the franchise on SNES, they totally forgot their roots.
XIII-2 looks promising though, more open world and side quests. Only time can tell.

FWIW, FF3 on the DS lets you choose character classes.

    Cause Serah's a slut. :p

Honestly, they're not saying anything obviously in order to tease gamers. Not that it's all that useful for someone like me, who thought FF13 had the most godawful story in the series existence. Yes, this means I would put FF1's story, which can be summed up as "4 guys crystal powers beating really evil existence", as being a better story than FF13. So I honestly don't give a damn.

More than towns or battles, I just wish they write a story I can enjoy and/or characters I can like. I can forgive a lot of things wrong with an RPG if it just had nice storytelling.

Yeah the story was pretty weak but they are saying this one clears up most of the first so I guess only time will tell.

Today's games mostly have awful stories, think about how all these NES/SNES games taught values and the basic essence of life and human beings, how we should treat nature and our earth, the importance of friendship, etc.
Nowadays most games are just about action and some stylish looking hero killin everything in his way, mixed with giant cutscenes that don't really help to evolve the story. Heck, they all look the same, too.

Read an article at IGN which compared modern action heros and summmed up how they all were bald, muscled up, monotonous and silent guys that mostly speak in "cool" one-liners.

What happened to the times where you could identify with the motives and emotions of guys that spoke via text and barely had more than 100 pixels?

Miss the old days, most of new games have no soul.

Not a dang thing about Vs 13? Square knows we want it, or at least some info on it, but instead a sequel to one of their most polarizing titles comes out of nowhere.

They revealed how Lightning went missing in a new trailer:

    <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/M1wJ4DBPDO8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

They retconned FFXIII's ending to where Lightning just disappears right after they saved Cocoon.

After seeing the "Promise" trailer, the story for XIII-2 seems so contrived with all the time traveling and what not. Older versions of Hope / Snow is not what I wanted to see... at first I had some hope for this game, but it my anticipation has all but vanished.

I think I saw some new details about it recently. New interview with Nomura (director) or something. I'm kind of on a black out though (more like I just don't want to care until it is close to release), so didn't really pay attention.

    No you don't. Trust me.

Anyway, I'll admit that they seemed to have done some cool things with XIII-2. But I just have no interest in it at the moment (bad taste in my mouth from the original). So much other good stuff to play, not worth it to get excited about this, at least at this point. Maybe later on, I'll check it out. Get back to working on Deus Ex 4 please.

BTW, for those of you that also didn't care for FFXIII, I just wanted point out something. Square-Enix registered the domain for FinalFantasyXIII-3. Yep.

(probably just registering all domains along those lines, even if they have no plans to make such a game...but still)

edit: They need to just do another trailer, then end it with "Nope, it was just Chuck Testa. Don't worry, FFXIII is dead."

Anybody else played this game? I just beat it and I have to say that the sequel was much better than the first one. There may even be a part 3!

I finished the game in about two days.

Pretty solid, I hope there's another game and we don't have to just purchase all the DLC's.

Anyway now onto Mass Effect 3!
