I'd be pretty disappointed if this is how the draft worked out. I'd rather take a flyer on Whiteside, or trade down and go for Terrico While or Mikhail Torrance. I am not all that sure on Motiejunas, whether he will even come to the NBA and whether he is the next Dirk. I'd rather get the BPA at the #14 position, someone like Xavier Henry or Paul George (even though we are well-stocked at the swing position) since it opens up trade flexibility.
I'd be ecstatic if Donatas fell that far. A 7 footer that can shoot from anywhere and has handles like a SF. Morey went to Europe himself to scout this kid so I wouldn't be surprised.
This list no-doubt came directly from Morey's office himself, meaning it's clearly a Jedi mind trick for other GM's
He's polished in all facets of the fundamentals. He's a lefty He can handle the ball. He can pass very well He can shoot He's played against grown men since he was 17
I'm still shocked about how high they have Avery Bradley(Texas) going. He didn't even prove himself in college, yet he's projected to go first round???
He is soft, and I'd rather get someone who can rebound and play defense. Scoring will not be a problem with a lineup with Brooks, Martin, and Yao on the court. I think the Dirk comparisons are off... Dirk is a much more solid player and looks to draw contact... this guy seems soft and shies from it. And... he has a buyout (and he would need to pay past the $500k NBA teams can pay towards a buyout) and I have a hunch he won't appear unless its a very high draft pick.
He's 19. Yao wasn't half as confident as this kid would be when he comes over. No defense? You teach him (duhh) just like any other prospect (Jermaine Taylor). You can learn how to play defense, just ask Kobe. He has the tools to do it. You must not have seen this kid play at the Nike Hoops summit. He doesn't shy away from contact at all and he POSTS UP unlike an early Dirk. And...he doesn't have a buyout. He's free and clear. His favorite player and one he models his game from is our very own Luis Scola so I'm sure he'd love to play and learn from him.
Where does it say that he is free and clear? Last i heard, he had another year on his contract. It would be great to draft him and have him come over right away.
