You guys over value expiring contracts. I know you think we can take all these second picks and late firsts and expirings and poof a star appears, but how many times does that happen, and how many times does that lead to winning a chip?

I wonder if this has anything to do with Tilman buying 4.5 million shares in the Ceasars Casino. Trying to save money because his credit cards are maxed out.

He would have thrived in that role, but i dont think he watned to guard centers. Also, morris was a starter recently and they were not. He had options and you gotta make promises to those players.

Well lets wait and see how much Mirotic contributes to the Bucks championship run.

    A prime example.

The Rockets probably told Morris they viewed him as a stretch 5. And that with Capela starting there was only like 20 MPG available at the backup C spot. And then said with Faried and Morris it might be "situational" in terms of who plays. And there might be nights where 1 of them doesn't play.

Likely, Morris in OKC gets more "consistent / guaranteed" minutes behind Grant with Patterson being edge out some and Noel getting the backup C minutes. In OKC since they dont switch, Morris can play backup PF and fit their system.

Time will tell, but with the sadness that Harden has been portraying in the snitching of Steph and how sad he looks in the interview with Rachel Nichols, I think he needed that extra guy to take pressure off him.

Even with the trade for CP, why weren't we in play for the top-tier FAs last season, and this season?

Why are we not pulling strings everywhere to pull off a move like Lebron is trying w/ AD? If we are, why is there absolutely no indication that we're trying to get someone in the upcoming FA market?

Looking at the trend, we look like we're heading in the wrong direction.

TL;DR, Fine, time will tell, but it doesn't look good right now.

    You are over-valuing saving salary.

Let's turn this around. Instead of trying so hard to tell us how unimportant assets are that we traded, try convincing us what the salary savings will give us in basketball-value terms....without just saying "In Morey I Trust".

Shump's bird rights are important. From a trade tool viewpoint, they need to resign him to a "team friendly" contract. And then his salary will be able to be aggregated on Dec 15th. Capela, Gordon, and a resigned Shumpert are the key big salaries that can be moved for a 3rd star.

Having someone's Bird Rights is not that valuable when they aren't worth re-signing above the MLE, or potentially not even worth more than the mini-MLE.

That is to say, if you have no intention of outbidding MLEs, then you are still in jeopardy of being outbid by nearly every team.

How was the salary matched for porzingis ? Expiring

For porter , how does upside matter if it's expiring ? RFA ? Sure , but still that's an artifact of being an expiring contract

For Harris , yes there were picks involved ... but much of he salary moved was still expiring .

Expiring contracts alone don't have as much value as they used to .... I agree . But still think about how much it costs to move non-expiring salary .

Think about how much more the knicks , wizards , and clippers would have asked for if they were NOT getting back expiring contract but one that stayed on the books for multiple years .

Knight alone isn't getting **** done . But an expiring knight plus some firsts starts getting you the type of impact player you are looking for

The value of Shump's Bird Rights and value of trading him after re-signing him are two separate issues.

Shump's Bird Rights likely won't lead us to outbidding an MLE to retain him. Thus, we could be outbid by the MLE's on the Market despite having his Bird Rights. We might not even outbid mini-MLEs...and with UFA status, he could still bolt without getting outbid...for what he considers a better situation. Josh Smith did.

Tilman says a lot of things. Not sure why we should believe any of it. I judge a man by his actions. Thus far in the year and a half he's owned the team, they let Ariza walk, traded Ryno and Melton for Chriss and Knight and then coughed up a first rounder to dump their contracts for an expiring deal in Shumpert, picked up Rivers and Faried after they were waived, signed a bunch of league minimum guys in Melo, MCW, and Ennis, and then traded them away either because they sucked(Melo, MCW) or to dump salary(Ennis).

Meantime, he resigned CP3 to a max extension(likely stemming from a handshake agreement in the summer of 2017) and Capela to a 5-year deal with incentives that was way lower than expected thanks in large part to a crappy free agent market in 2018, especially for big men.

What do all of these moves save for CP3 have in common? They all seem indicative of an owner looking to spend as little as possible on personnel. Now maybe he genuinely wants to get under the luxury tax because he plans to spend big in the next 2-3 years. If that's the case, then fine. But again, I judge a man by his actions. Right now, he looks like a cheap, nickel and dime owner in the mold of a Donald Sterling. If the Rockets remain under the luxury tax next season(barring an underwhelming and/or injury plagued season), then I'll have no choice but to conclude that's exactly what he is.
