DC must be really good at marketing to sell a monthly comic for 80 years that features a main character that is not compelling. Not to mention 7 movies, several television series (including one which ran for 10 seasons), and an infiltration into popular culture that few have matched in history.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Flash. Supernatural. Arrow. The 100. There are a lot of quality shows on CW. It's not just Vampire Diaries lol. Avoiding traces of shows on the CW is a huge misstep, imo. The problem with this is, most people just know Batman. Superman is all well and good, but he's an unstoppable hero that really doesn't have any character flaws that movies and TV shows can really flesh out. Batman is so internally conflicted, and his rogue gallery so famous, that you can easily pump out content, whether it's animated series, movies, etc. What people need, ironically in an age with a surplus of superhero media, is more helpings of lesser known superheroes, like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, etc. It really doesn't help that there are a ton of X-Men movies, and Avengers related movies that saturate the media. Most solo heroes don't get the recognition they deserve, which is why Arrow and Flash are such a welcome change.
RUMOR: Aquaman To Be An Initial Antagonist In 'Justice League Part One' In the aftermath of the controversial release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the best thing that can be done is to look to the future of the DC universe on film. And the future is coming whether you want it to or not. On April 11th, director Zack Snyder will jump behind the camera to film Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Henry Cavill, in the first part of the Justice League movie. The ill-received story of Dawn of Justice will continue in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the most iconic comic book superteam ever. In Batman v Superman, there were numerous references and scenes hinting to a coming war with the ruthless tyrant, Darkseid. This has led many to speculate that the notorious villain would be appearing in the upcoming film. There certainly has not been a confirmation of this and Heroic Hollywood's El Mayimbe recently dropped a scoop on his new YouTube show Heroic Insider, that may put the Justice League in better focus. "Supposedly in Justice League, it's a conflict, or war, with Atlantis early on in the movie...Supposedly they [Batman and Wonder Woman] go down to Atlantis. But Aquaman is not having any of it. And on top of that. Here is something cool. The Amazonians and Atlanteans don't like each other. They have a thousand year old conflict." Warner Bros has set a precedent for testing out their new DC film properties with animated features, whether it's the Suicide Squad in Batman: Assault on Arkham, The Dark Knight Returns, or Aquaman with Throne of Atlantis. Much like Marvel Studios has been playing the long game with their decade-long reveal of Thanos. It makes sense to gradually build to the galactic battle with Darkseid in the second part of the Justice League. There have long been rumors that famed Superman villain Braniac would be the intergalactic threat that would bring the team together. What is interesting is that there has been very little talk of an actor being cast or in talks to play any villain role in the Justice League. Which certainly is curious and would certainly point to Aquaman being a primary antagonist for at least the beginning of the movie. At the end of Batman v Superman, there is a shot where Batman is impotently looking at Wonder Woman and Superman, two god-like beings, battling the monster known as Doomsday. In this shot, it shows the vulnerability and fragility of the very human Batman. So how will the mortal Bruce Wayne discover the underwater kingdom of Atlantis in the movie? El Mayimbe explains: "In Batman v Superman we see Batman on air, in the Batwing. We see Batman on land, in the Batmobile. This time in Justice League, he supposedly gets a Bat-sub. Batman at sea. I mean think about it. He's going down to Atlantis. How is he supposed to get down there? Snorkling?" Last week Snyder described his vision for the first installment of the Justice League. He envisions Batman traveling the world assembling the members, much like in the classic film, Seven Samurai. Screenwriter Chris Terrio recently revealed his extensive research in both Amazonian and Greek mythology, as well as studying deep sea trenches and underwater life. Terrio's research and comments certainly would line up with a showdown between Aquaman and Wonder Woman. The way the conflict is described, it seems that it won't last beyond the second act. There is still the unnamed threat that will ultimately bring all of these heroes together and give a reason (beyond Batman's premonitions) for the formation of the Justice League. It should be exciting to see the project come together. We also should get some confirmation on these rumors soon. So stay tuned!
This sounds turrrible, like water world level fail. What can Aquaman have other than home court advantage?
A huge home court advantage? An entire nation (Atlantis) on his side? Any ocean creature obeying his command? Super strength and speed underwater? Honestly, if they didn't have a big underwater sequence there would be nothing for Aquaman to do except wait in the shallows for something to happen. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/eI3uFgRVFuI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/reYE2-yWCuI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
2018. I have the feeling that the public may start hitting burnout on Superhero flicks soon. While they're here to stay, 6+ a year is a bit much. I'll still watch but I think Marvel hit the sweet spot timing-wise.
Just hope the screenplay is better in this movie than it was for Superman vs. Batman. That was such a let down. The actions scenes were great, and that's what I'm hoping will get carried over to this one.
They already made the animated movie on Atlantis vs Amazons. Basically some love triangle kinda thing and a tyrant ruler of the sea who eventually is overthrown by Aquaman. That'll be the whole movie.
Sounds like a good idea for an Aquaman or Wonder Woman movie, but Justice League? From Doomsday & Luthor to... Aquaman? Anticlimactic.
Did anyone read the article? Aquaman will be a foe for part of the first movie before it moves to something bigger. As for what Aquaman brings as a foe, the sudden revelation that there is a race of super strong individuals with advanced weaponry would be a pretty bit threat, no? They are all super strong, and while not as strong as say Superman, they are stronger than Captain America. Would an entire nation of people who are as strong as say, Spiderman, with warrior training and the ability to control marine life be a threat?
