I don't expect to be bored to tears watching a deserter hanging out in a fishing village when I go to see a war movie.
That pretty much runs the gammet doesn't it? And oddly describes about every stop along my favorite character's life story. Which was Darth Vader (anakin Skywalker) BTW... I thought P.W. Herman was a good character as well. Until he perved out.
Roy Batty or Deckard in blade runner Eric Liddle in Chariots of Fire TJ Mackey in Magnolia Patrick Bateman in american psycho These are NIMF certified opinions.
I really cant differentiate which is which. I mean they are all the same insecure quirky imaginative guy with love issues and a niche interest. whether its lane meyer, gibson, lloyd, martin blank, or rob gordon. thats probably his biggest appeal. its the same redundant character, that we've kinda grown up and experienced the countless lady problems hes had over the years. by the way, i cant wait till we see this same type character, but with some more grown up content. rasing a kid, a la big daddy. something. “Gib: Elliot? You're gonna name the kid Elliot? No, you can't name the kid Elliot. Elliot is a fat kid with glasses who eats paste. You're not gonna name the kid Elliot. You gotta give him a real name. Give him a name! Like Nick. Alison: Nick? Gib: Yeah, Nick! Nick's the kinda guy you can trust. Nick's your buddy. Nick's the kinda guy you drink beers with. The kinda guy that doesn't care if you puke in his car. Nick!”
Battleground is an awesome WWII, Battle of the Bulge film. One of the best things Van Johnson did. Great small unit perspective.
I'm not saying they're all good war movies...I'm saying that war films usually have some type of saving grace. I've never seen a war film that I absolutely hated or even disliked. Some of the ones I listed aren't very good for being war films, but they are still interesting in their own way. BTW, which ones would you consider your least favorite? "I really can't think of one at the moment...Patton, Glory, Saving Private Ryan(Might be my favorite war film), Braveheart, The Patriot, Black Hawk Down, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, Three Kings, Lawrence of Arabia, The Alamo, even Pearl Harbor." The only ones I didn't think were great are Pearl Harbor and The Alamo. I'll have to get around to seeing Full Metal Jacket.
