Cap’n Crunch Crunch Berries Honey Nut Cheerios Peanut Butter Puffins Life Cereal I wasn’t allowed to have sugar cereal as a kid so grew up eating Grape Nuts and Regular Cheerios. The ironic thing is that I was allowed to put a heaping spoonful of sugar on my cereal (most likely tripling the sugar content vs something like fruity pebbles). Man I’m telling you Grape Nuts with sugar was amazing
I think we had the same childhood. Frosted mini-wheats and Cracklin Oat Bran were the sweetest cereal I got...except for Grape Nuts.
I haven't eaten sugared cereal since high school. Grapenuts for me. One of my favorite breakfast is Grapenuts with a handful of trail mix. I used to eat so much Grapenuts in college that I got a few friends to create a Grapenuts cult. We made an offering on the roof of our dorm to the Grapenuts god before finals one year.
I can't find the Oatmeal Crisp with raisins anymore, just almonds. I really liked Frosted Wheaties, but they weren't on the market vey long.
I don't eat breakfast. And no it's not the most important meal of the day. But when I was a kid... Apple jacks honey combs honey nut cheerios honey bunches of oats reese's puffs ...and other forms of sugar.
I mix equal parts Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios for my kids and Frosted Mini-Wheats. Those are the two go-to kinds of cereal. We avoid the high sugar cereals, but I broke today and got some Golden Grahams.
Since working remotely and having time to eat breakfast I've been rotating between Frosted Flakes, Trix and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Anyone tried the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Churro cereal? My daughter/wife discovered this recently, and gotta say, it's pretty good. Probably closest a cereal has come to the real thing for me. Never really liked the pebble cereals as a kid, Capn Crunch Original was one of my faves though. Always kinda so-so on the crunch berries.
That sounds like three other cereals they either already had or were getting beat by specific products at Kellogs.
Have to eliminate hot cereals. Almost any of them from honeyed malt-o-meal to buttered and bacon-bitted grits to bob's red mill steel cut oats, they'd fill the trifecta on their own. Similarly sugar cereals even if king when adjusting for nostalgia/history, I'd have to be ranking memories of fruity pebbles vs. honey comb. Modern day I'm going old school cold grape nuts & black coffee. The box is tiny, but try to put more than a half cup in your bowl and let me know how much more you think you need. CLose 2nd would have been special K before they changed their vitamin profile (that I can taste, just like fortified OJ or milk with extra vit. D).
I loved that stuff as a kid. I haven't eaten it in years, though. I have various relationships with cereal. Digging back through my whole life... With milk: Winner: Crispix is I think my all-time favorite. Runners up: Great Grains, Raisin Bran, and Special K (eating a lot of Special K lately) Dry: Winner: Normal Cap'n Crunch. Got hooked on it in college. Yeah, it cuts your mouth to shreds very quickly, but it's still great. Inferior with milk. Runner-up: Corn Chex. Corn Chex is absolute misery with milk, but great on its own or in mixes and baked goods. With yogurt (which is how I normally do things nowadays): Winner: Kroger generic granola with raisins. It's cheaper and better than most other granola I've found and goes great with plain yogurt. I eat this at all times of the day.
