They should either do it themselves or else have a 3rd party/govt do it - but there needs to be some form of protection against the exploitation

This is while Facebook won’t accept any ads that may be even potentially political because Facebook won’t call the election yet.

Strange -- everytime there is a thread about FB on the BBS the ads go nuts with pop ups and short commercials (muted) that scroll with the page.

OP needs to reevaluate his initial claim.

It is just a platform to push what the billionaires deem acceptable fodder for discourse and thought. Same with Twitter. These sites are "left" leaning today for this reason.

Same with the major media outlets, including FOX in their news coverage (not opinion and even that is suspect lately because it's pulling punches)

Some of yall need an intervention though... y'all get your thoughts from media outlets and fail to bring anything to this site except regurgitated **** spewed by a handful of media firms that are owned by a relatively small number of billionaires. And then act like it's not keeping you in the dark on things. There is a reason the polls are always wrong... it's good for political narratives and fund raising for one side. There is a reason people think the president elect is chosen by CNN and FOX... an over trust and a false light has been cast by these firms on important subjects of the day. But don't listen to me. Think for yourself. Think hey... if it's too good to be true then it probably is. There are not companies out there looking our for your best interest and serving an altruistic cause. If you truly believe these giant media firms do this, and their grunts, then there is truly no hope.

Facebook is in a no win situation here. On one side they are accused of being a Right Wing Social Network and on the other hand they are accused of censoring Conservative voices against the principle of Free Speech.

If they are being accused by both the Left and the Right tells me that they really aren't ideological. My main criticism of them isn't ideology but that their algorithms magnify radical, extreme and salacious content not because they want to do that but because that is what keeps eyeballs coming back to their site. I think if they address that it will go a long way to addressing many of their other problems.

It might also make them less profitable but as things are going if they want to avoid getting more heavy handed regulation (that might make them less profitable) they need to fix this themselves.
