Les let Dragic walk so that Dragic wouldn't be traded by Rockets before the season when the Rockets failed to sign Bosh. As Rockets didn't trade Dragic in offseason, no reacquiring provision of CBA doesn't apply to the Rockets this season. Therefore, the Rockets can then trade for Dragic during the season. All part of Les's master plan so that Dragic has a chance to be a Rocket this season. Without Les's foresight, Dragic would be a Laker with no chance of being a Rocket this season.
Youre crazy this is the best thing that could have happened. Rockets now have all the leverage in their favor and let's see if dragic really does walk from a winning team. This hurts the suns bad, what can they honestly get from the Knicks or lakers?
Alright, maybe I shouldn't have put it that way. This is a multimillion dollar business though. Everything the front office does has risk assessments, anaysis, etc etc. He didn't do it because he didn't want to win. It was a case of the costs and risks outweighed the probable benefits.
Face the truth: Leslie itched us! Face the truth: Leslie lusted us! Face the truth: Leslie salted us! Face the truth: Leslie taxied us! Face the truth: Leslie deeded us! Face the truth: Leslie baited us! Face the truth: Leslie bonked us! We will never know what the OP meant!
Exactly. That's what it IS to be a fan of a team. You get ****ed with some bad moves, you get pleasured with some good moves. No one's immune, not even the Spurs (hi Richard Jefferson!). You hope there's more good than bad - and I would suspect 80+% would agree there is under Les and Morey. Letting go of Dragic was a mistake in pure talent terms. In the context of the day though, it was time to rejoice because we were finally stepping off the 9 seed to really tank. Then Harden happened, which gave a new perspective but could hardly have been anticipated months before.
I didn't read past the first page, but if you want to be upset about something be upset that we didn't re-sign Lowry in 2014.
So anytime we make a trade or aquire a FA that results in a positive impact it's "in Morey we trust", "Morey did it again", "the best GM in sports". But if we happen to lose out on a player, or overpay for a mediocre (Jeremy Lin) it's all Les's fault? I'm confused
It's kinda similar to when players gets all the praise while the coaches gets all the blame. I still don't get why Les screwed 'us'. It has been reported again and again that Goran wanted the player option but the team refused, Phoenix made a better offer (in his eyes I guess). Unless OP gives me a factual proof to say otherwise then it's all speculation.
THIS, THIS, THIS is where Les ****ed us. It sounds like letting Dragic go initially was necessary to get Harden. That, of course, has paid off 10x over what Dragic could ever bring us at any point. The Lin decision, however, was pure emotion, and it sounds like Morey's analysis set him against it. What we got from that was a dud with a poison pill contract around which all our money decisions had to be based and for which we got little in return. We managed to land Howard anyway, but I bet the Lin trade set us back significantly towards acquiring players we actually need to build that championship team and probably had a hand in us letting certain players go that have gone on to be pretty successful. I'd be interested to see over the past couple of years which star point guards of today we might have had some chance of acquiring if we never took the Linsanity bait. It wasn't just about money either; it was about having having the PG spot plugged up for any potential suitors. Also, just for the record, my annoyance is not with Jeremy Lin; it's with making big business decisions based on emotion (and probably trying to keep the Chinese market) instead of logic.
If we would have given the player option to Dragic, we would have been strapped for cash and couldn't provide a max contract to Harden...Morey did the best thing to keep the budget flexible to acquire a star, such as Harden. So chill bro
The refusal to give player options on 3+ year contracts may look stupid when someone like Goran grows into a near all-star level player. However, it's the same policy that keeps you from having to give player options to lesser players as well. For every guy like Dragic who makes the policy look like a mistake, there are 2 or 3 who make you glad that DM doesn't throw our resources around that casually. Besides, Goran was good when he was with us, but not THAT good, so this is all hindsight 20/20 stuff anyway.
coming off the heels of Linsanity, Lin looked like an emerging superstar... people were chomping at the bit to reaquire Lin....
