The constant revolving door works if your ok with going over the cap for talent. We are constant revolving role players. We will not go over the cap.
Well, the constant dealing of role players is because Les seems to have a "no tanking" policy. If you're not gonna land a superstar in the draft or free agency, then your only other option is to acquire assets and try to deal for one. Thankfully the Rockets were in the right place at the right time when Harden became available.
True, unless for that freaking third star they keep forcing down our throat. I really hope this off-season at that meeting of season ticket holders and such, people will put pressure on Morey by saying he should just build a team already, not keep waiting on that third star because it has probably already cost us this season. The window of winning now was last year, this year and maybe next year in case Dwight is healthy, Then we need to rebuild around Harden.
Players like Goran are not players I want on my Team. Dwight gave up $30 million to play for a contender
I think many of you forget that the down year Dragic is having is what it would have been like the two years here in Houston with Harden handling the ball. Dragic would have left anyway. Anybody would have. Think of the greatest two guards that won championships and then look at who their point guard was (Jordan/Paxson-Armstrong, Kobe/Fisher, Wade/Chalmers) - maybe that's how it works.
That's not entirely true. You can have two ballhandlers in the backcourt and win a title. The Pistons had Billups and Rip. The Heat in 2006 had Wade and Jason Williams. The Celtics had Rondo and Allen. The Spurs have Parker and Ginobili. Harden and Dragic would work fine together because both can play off the ball. Harden's become a decent catch and shoot player. And we know Dragic can do that since he's been forced into that role with all the other PGs Phoenix has been stockpiling.
Dwight didn't want to come to Houston a few years ago. He waived his opt out clause in 2012 to avoid being dealt to Houston. He reportedly didn't want to be traded to Houston that offseason and reportedly would walk if that happened. A year later he took less money to come to Houston.
You have to look at it as a whole. Not committing to long term contracts and collecting assets is what gave the Rockets the ability to get Howard and Harden. Sometimes those moves are going to blow up in your face but overall it has been a great approach that has worked out well for the Rockets.
Overreact much? Hindsight is 20/20. Dragic has way outplayed his contract in Phoenix. There was no way for us to know that at the time. The Rockets, after years of mediocrity, looked like they were finally going to commit to tanking. From the reports, it sounds like they tried to get a deal done with Dragic but when that didn't work moved on to sign Lin who was a younger, more unproven player. Also a more marketable player. Those are all good things to have if a team is tanking. Again- when the rockets decided to not give Dragic the player option and instead signed Lin, they were being predicted to finish at the very bottom of the Western Conference. Flexibility was even more important then than it is now. The the Harden trade happened and it transformed our franchise. Now our priorities are different and Dragic's play over the past 3 years make his value different. There was absolutely no way Les or Morey could have known that 3 years ago.
This. Fans are so freaking short sited..... and Whiny. Damn they are whiny. Guys.... Its Goran Dragic, and Jeremy Lin we are talking about here. We aren't talking about Lebron James and Kevin Durant. I love Goran, and would love to have to have him but mark my words.... In two years, Goran Dragic might have the worst contract in the NBA. If he's acquired and resigned at the max for FIVE YEARS, the Rockets better be winning it all because that's a horrible contract for a player that has only had one season playing at a semi-all-star level, is not a good defensive player, and will be on the wrong side of 30 in two years. I think folks really need to take a deep breath and relax. So emotional.
Why people put this on Morey is silly. He doesn't write the paychecks This isn't about the player option This is about Les being greedy and going after the Asian market. The Rockets came up empty on getting a big time FA so Les went with the bigger name and the circus around it to give the fans the impression that the Rockets did something "BIG" Les has always put making money over winning a championship
The best PG he screwed us out of was when he removed Murphy from the broadcast crew permanently. The 2nd best PG he screwed us out of was when he fell in love with Adelman and didn't renew JVG. Why bring this up? Because there are already 35 Goran threads.
Yes, it was a mistake to let Dragic walk for nothing. But, that was a million years ago. It doesn't matter anymore.

Dude. Fact is, Morey didn't want to give Dragic the player option. Morey didn't want to be in the exact situation that the Suns are in right now, where Dragic is basically dictating a trade. Based on where we were at the time, that was a very smart move.
What do you mean its not about the player option? Dragic wanted it, the Rockets didn't want to give him that. Thats been reported. Simple as that. They went after Lin after the whole Dragic thing passed.
