If Mallett plays well I think they could be 10-6 maybe 11-5. BOB is the real deal. This will be a good team.
I don't think this Texans team is especially talented, especially at the QB position. It is very hard to win more than 9 or 10 games with trash at the QB position.
Well it doesn't help if you draft and sign like crap. Bob has had a couple years to get a good QB. Could have drafted Bridgewater or Garrapolo. That being said I am a fan of B'OB so far. Just not gonna make excuses.

Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 20 – @ Indy (L...OLOLOL!) Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 27 – @ Tennessee (W) Week 17: Sunday, Jan. 3 – vs Jacksonville (W) At bare minimum I see 8 wins. No reason to think we should do worse than last year. Atlanta, Miami, and Cinci are too close to call and each will be more difficult than the last. Each one of them will also be more import than the last as well (I can see us and Cinci fighting each other for a wild card). Just like last year, it will take 10 wins to get in. As such, it would be really nice to take 2 of those 3 tossups, or steal one from the Patriots or Colts. We're almost assuredly going to get stomped in our first matchup with the Colts, coming off a roadie in ATL on a short week. New England becomes better as the season goes on, but we get them at home. If we can beat the Colts in Indy, this team will have a shot at the division. Of course, all of this is predicated on us getting off to a strong start with 3 or 4 wins in the first few weeks. If we come out flat and drop 2-3 games in our first 4, it will be an uphill climb. Trap games: vs NYJ - Coming off a tough Monday nighter in Cinci, mini-trap game. @BUF - Huge trap game. Outdoors in upstate NY in December. May get caught looking ahead to the Patriots the following week.
Who's their QB again?.............. There's always an offseason winner; offseason winners rarely win anything once the actual games begin.
I think the Colts and Broncos are offseason "winners" who didn't do as well as it may appear. Thwir strategies would work great for building a fantasy team though.
A team with Matt Cassel or EJ Manuel at QB will never be better than the Patriots. Problem is, I can see us going up there in the freezing cold and laying an egg, thus ruining a clear path to either the division or a wild card.
This thread kind of shows how much more we expect of the Texans over this time last year. Even the most pessimistic people in this thread are saying 7 or 8 wins, last year there was talk of a 4 win season.
also @Buffalo in December is never a gimme. They could be pounded by snow in addition to the stampede. Houston always struggles in the cold.
I'm thinking incrementally it's only going to be an extra win or two. I do however believe this team will be much improved over last year. Especially on offense. If we can get the Mallet that played against Cleveland last year, with addition to a full off-season with 1st string snaps, I think this team will be very good. As stated though, the success of this season is all predicated on the success of our QB. Our defense will be even better than last year, and I'm hoping for a much better ST unit, seeing how after the first couple games that side of the game completely reverted to years prior.
I bristle at this type of expectation (and, by extention, criticism), as if good QBs grow on trees. Further, we have absolutely no idea how good Garrapolo is (if at all) and we've yet to see Bridgewater play enough games to get an accurate idea of how good (bad) he is. If Mallett grabs the QB position by the gralls, I think we can start the clock on BOB... But if he and Hoyer both fall into the Fitzpatrick/filler category, we have to give BOB more rope. Overall, I like that he's being practical and patient. I like that he seemingly recognizes that in absence of an uber-elite QB, he's going to try and make everything else better. I like the "we may not have a great QB, but I have two good ones who could push each other" approach. He's thinking outside the box and it's encouraging. I think the guy is wicked smart and that we're lucky to have him.
This is simply untrue. The Texans have played exceedingly well in cold weather going 7 and 3 in games where the temperature is 40 or lower. They've beaten the likes of Green Bay and Pittsburgh in cold weather games.
