International basketball was not developed as much and scouted as much by the NBA back then. The NBA had few foreign players in the 80s and early 90s compared to now.

So there not being a good player from a country until Olajuwon/Schrempf, etc. could be more likely related to the lack of attention to international scouting. If there still isn't a decent player from Greece in 2014, they have no excuse the whole country sucks.

Greek players have been drafted and given chances at the NBA and they are smelly prima donnas who suck on the court.

Greek basketball, like the whole country, are controlled by mobsters and liers and cheats. You can't trust these people, period.

You're right international basketball is more developed today. A Greek team has won a Euroleague title 5 times in the last 8 years. The Greeks on those teams get million dollar contracts and get to play in there homeland in a competitive league. I don't think even the best players are going to pass that up for a rookie contract to play in some ****ty U.S city like Cleveland.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was born in Greece and came from second division Greek basketball league and gets minutes in the NBA.

Pretty sure not one Greek on the team that beat USA in 2006 played in the NBA.

And Koufos doesn't count because he's born and raised in America, where we have values. Giannis in Milwaukee also doesn't count because his family is from Nigeria and Greece have only decided granting them citizenship after Giannis got good at basketball and got drafted into the NBA.
