Does anyone know if he will call it quits or try to make a come back?

Probably on an American League team as a DH.

Since we're stating the obvious here:

Man, I freaking miss Jeff Bagwell. :(

me thinks it was a joke ...

So when will the Astros retire his number? I hope they do it soon so the fans can give him the ovation he certainly deserves with the ending of his career not coming the way any of us wanted it to.

I'll be pissed if he doesn't make the Hall in his ten year pre-Veterans-Committee window. Regardless of the offensive stats that were cut short by injury and the era in which he played, dude was the total package for ten years.

Obviously he'll be compared most to the Big Hurt, and since he has been able to bounce back from his injury issues he's finally been able to put a little distance offensively between himself and Bagwell in the offense category. But the comparisons end there. In every other area of the game, Jeff Bagwell is head and shoulders above FT and every other HoF candidate of his generation and of several before him. FT and McGwire can't touch Jeff on the basepaths. They can't touch him in the field. They didn't have his instincts. The guy was a flat-out amazing freaking ballplayer in every arena of the baseball field. I used to *hope* they'd try to bunt the runner; I wanted to see another 3-6-1 double play.

Like Buck said: Greatest. Astro. Ever.

It *sucks* losing him four or five years early to injury. A lot of folks don't realize exactly what we've missed out on.

My guess is the next stop is the golf course....unless he's blown away by a contender in the AL where he can be possibly be a DH...and even that may be a stretch since he has clearly dropped off offensively. We'll miss him but buh bye to that contract.

I'll never forget the game I was at with my son vs Milwaukee where he hit the pinch hit walk off single to right-center...a definite goose bump moment

It's been 2 years and I still can't get used to seeing anyone but Bagwell guarding first base.
