Check out this bunch of sellouts: Demetria Guynes Allen Konigsberg Stamatina Fey Alphonso d’Abruzzo Georgios Panayiotou Caryn Johnson Natalie Herschlag
In my opinion: ^ Not sellouts like "Toni." These are just name changes and they remain the same. You miss the point, "DFW". "Worked" for her, but is tricking the 'latino' heritage. She's a SELL OUT to y'all gringos.
How is what they did different from your own reason for why toni "sold out"? All these people changed their names to "english sounding names" so they fit in..just like Toni - are they "defaming their heritage"? In the case of Whoopi, she purposely chose the name Goldberg because she wanted a Jewish name for the entertainment field. No, she made a smart business decision. She was a young half hispanic & half white girl trying to get a TV job in the southwest. TV markets where good talent is in demand and where hispanic talent is in even higher demand. I'd say she new her target employers well and made a personal choice. It would be stupid and even racist for me to be offended.
You seem to either refuse to read or haven't comprehended it yet, but I'll oblige: They didn't change it after moving from Spanish to English TV. They changed it as a "stage name" to begin their careers in Movies/TV/whatever they do. Blah blah. They changed it ONCE, and left it alone. Same reason as above. Seems like you know her life. How do you know she's "half white", sir? Changing names after already being in the "market", as you call it, and away from her Spanish-sounding name to seem more "English" is what I'm mentioning. You all seem to believe that "it's OK" to denounce one's heritage or to try to assimilate by changing your name to "appeal" to more people. Man, are y'all materialistic. Things like these happen for "business reasons", but that doesn't mean they're right.
I think I want to have sex with her in this outfit Oh and SwoLy I tweeted her for you. I politely asked how she feels if a Latin person calls her a sellout since she goes by Toni now.
Don't know anyone who's Latin. Is that a new country? GEE, thanks, man. I owe you one. Not. Nope. If you're going to have a "stage name", pick one, and stick with it. Don't change it every time you go to a different language TV station. What, is she going to be "Kambubuzella Collins" if she goes to an African sports station?
Latin...Latino...you can find something else to get offended over. It looks like my thoughts about how people close to her call her Toni was right. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/robbiemac380">@robbiemac380</a> everyone has their own opinion... My close friends have always called me Toni...to me it is normal... xoxo</p>— Toni Collins (@CollinsDeportes) <a href="https://twitter.com/CollinsDeportes/statuses/412989683216687104">December 17, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Her mother called her Antonietta. Then she sold out to her gringo friends by changing her name. If you're going to start life with one name you should stick to that name. She even changed her name when she went online to @CollinsDeportes. Effin sellout. Why can't her Twitter name just be Antonietta like her mother wanted?
You asked "how do u feel if..." she's called a sellout? of course she's going to respond like that. She won't respond "I just wanted you gringos and non-Spanish speakers to have trouble with 'Antonietta', and I also want to get paid lots more money because I wouldn't if I kept my previous TV name" if you ask her why she changed it. She won't come with the honest reason "it's for money and I don't care about selling out." You were doing well until this point. Then you brought up the Twitter bull crap. Points off, mister social networks.
You are too afraid to ask or confront her so that's how I asked the question. Feel free to do it yourself.
You don't tell me what to do. I don't want to ask her a question for which I know the answer, either. Besides, I hardly ever watch ESPN... I caught the tail end of one of her reports one time, but I was "WTF, that's not TONI Collins, that's Antonietta." And so I stopped watching. I watch Unimás, Univision Deportes Network and Contacto Deportivo instead. I bet you anything she will return to Spanish-speaking television. That's when I will ask her... you know she's going to change the name back... and sell out again.
soooo changing your name before you get famous to sound more appealing to the masses isn't a problem but shortening your name after is a sellout to your heritage? She already did spanish tv, she speaks spanish, she doesnt shy away from it like those actors did. As a hispanic I have no problem with her shortening her name and since when is "toni" considered a more universal name especially for a girl anyway?
Are you asking a question? On top of that, you leave the H in Hispanic in lower case? Please come back when you can be a proud "hispanic." You can't speak for us like that. DISAPPROVED.
