http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nba/news/story?id=5573456 Tim Thomas won't be joining the Dallas Mavericks this season after all. Thomas has informed the team that his wife's illness, which took him away from the club last season, will prevent him from playing a 14th NBA season, Thomas' agent Bob Myers said Tuesday. The 6-foot-10 power forward had agreed to a one-year deal with Dallas last month. Last season, he averaged 7.5 points and 2.3 rebounds in 18 games. Thomas left the Mavs on good terms in January to care for his wife. He has not disclosed the nature of her illness. Mavs officials declined to comment as they work with the league to void his contract. He had signed for the veteran's minimum of $1.35 million. The Mavs are left with one true power forward on the roster, Dirk Nowitzki, and 13 guaranteed contracts. snickers...
They're still pretty loaded: Haywood/Chandler Dirk Marion Butler/Terry Kidd/Beaubois/Barea And both Chandler and Butler are pretty good February trade assets.
Sorry to hear his wife is still having health problems. Class move by the Mavs the way they handled this the past few years.
The way Tim Thomas has kept this under wraps and gone about it all is truly exceptional.. Best to him and his family.
I remember when he played for the Suns and hit like four straight 3s in the playoffs against the Lakers....then did the "you can't see me" gesture....
Good to hear about an NBA player taking care of his wife/family. I'm sure it was a tough decision for him to make. Best wishes to him... worst wishes to the Mavs.
Whats just as out there to me is saying "14 year vet" Tim Thomas. He's one of those guys you always assume is in his 6th year.
