Clips to meet with DeAndre Jordan, want center to back away from Mavs deal
    3m - NBA DeAndre Jordan +2 more

The Los Angeles Clippers are trying to convince DeAndre Jordan to reconsider his decision to sign with the Mavericks after Jordan verbally committed to join Dallas last week, according to league sources.
With a day to spare, Clippers officials are hoping a DeAndre Jordan-to-Dallas deal is no slam dunk. Nathaniel S. Butler/NBAE/Getty Images

Free agents are traditionally considered off limits once they strike a verbal agreement with a team during the NBA's annual moratorium period, but sources said that the Clippers have pushed to secure a meeting Wednesday in Houston for coach/team president Doc Rivers and possibly owner Steve Ballmer to make one last face-to-face pitch to Jordan in an attempt to convince him to walk away from the four-year, $80-plus million max deal he committed to with the Mavericks and instead stay with L.A.

Sources say that some Clippers players have been in contact in recent days as well with Jordan, who informed both teams of his decision last Friday and then flew to his offseason home in Houston.

Thursday is the first day teams and players can formally sign contracts once the moratorium is lifted. Sources say the Clippers, since Jordan's return to Houston, have been bypassing his representatives from Relativity Sports and have been urging him to take the Clippers' offer instead while there's still time.

Sources told ESPN's Chris Broussard that Jordan has told people close to him since picking Dallas that he's still "torn" and "unsure" about his choice.

The NBA's moratorium period at the start of July every year is designed to allow the league to calculate the precise new salary cap and luxury tax figures for the coming season. But teams and players are allowed to come to verbal agreements during the moratorium starting July 1. The first seven days of 2015 free agency produced a frenzy that has seen roughly 70 free agents come to terms on new contracts.

lol i would be happy and sad. on one hand, this happening to the mavs would be one of the greatest and funniest thing in the world and i wouldn't stop laughing about it for the rest of my life (not a joke). on the other hand the clippers would be back in the championship convo.

honestly i wouldn't mind the clippers being good if it means dallas would suck balls and be the victim of easily the biggest flip flop in the history of the nba.

I had almost forgot about the Boozer one - that was really bad. He's the one who left Lebron high and dry early in his career. Now Boozer would sell his family to play with Lebron.

...let's not forget Bosh did this to us last year.

    LMAO.

I don't want the Clippers to remain contenders, but watching Cuban cry would be too good

Damn, I would LOVE to see the crying Mavs/Cuban/Parsons if DeAndre changes his choice but it would hurt the Rockets competitively in the West.

Their excuse was they didn't know he wanted more touches? That's the lamest excuse I have ever heard.

It's amazing how there can be absolute sharks like Morey swimming the same waters as guys in LA who apparently have no idea how modern talent recruiting works.

DeAndre spends his chill time in Houston but I really think he loves the LA Fame, lifestyle celebs etc. In Dallas he won't get that.
