Hard to think we are going to beat out all those teams. I think Lakers/Mavs/Spurs have the inside track.

For us to get him we'd have to decimate this team and he has to know that.

Indulge me in my wishful thinking and simplistic logic:

LA: Kobe is old, Russell is new; he'd spend at least next season (likely more) without a chance to contend. At 30, I'm sure he's not interested in wasting even one year.

Dallas: Dirk is old, Parsons is new; the Mavs are in the same boat as the Lakers except in Dallas. Ellis was their best player last year and he's gone. Sure the home-advantage is big, but clearly winning is the priority.

That's why neither Dallas nor LA will sign LA...and nor will any of the other bottom feeding teams on his list. So who are the true contenders for his services?

San Antonio: Lenord is a young star, Pop is the best coach in the league, Duncan, Parker, and Manu give him a solid chance to win a title next year, his son lives there. I see SA as his most likely destination.

Houston: Harden is a young star, Dwight is the same age as LA, McHale is a player's coach who big men love (did I mention big men love Dream too?), Houston coming off huge success in the post season (no other suitors can say that), can contend next year and every year after, China market, it's Texas.

Houston has a real shot; it will be SA or Houston.

What do you think? Wishful thinking or sound logic?

Sounds logical if he really does have a "win first" mentality. You can't disregard Portland tho. They may have gotten rid of Batum, but that doesn't mean they're gutting the team. They still have Lillard to build around. Lillard and LMA are a great 1-2 punch.

I would trade D12 for Aldridge right now str8 up, why, only 1 reason he can actually play during the critical minutes of the 4th quarter and make his free throws. Every team and the league will apply the hackaD12 strategy in the 4th qtr or early to stay in the game or stay ahead. We cannot afford 2 starters (Josh and D12) on the team.

I realize we are losing rebounding and defense, however, Aldridge is murder in the Toyota Center, shoots lights out. Portland would then have enough money to sign his boy JSmoove to a big contract and they are fat, dumb, and happy in Portland. We roll with Aldridge, Tjones, Dmo, Capela, as our 4 big men... Find us a PG somewhere and let's roll.

There is no need to make a desperate move to get LMA. The Rockets need to retain Josh and hope for a healthy return from D-Mo. Jones is good enough as a backup, and even Harrell might be able to bring needed energy and defense as a 4 despite being a rookie.

If Capela gets stronger, while maintaining his speed and hops, our backup 5 spot will be fine as well.

H and H, plus Trevor need a starting PG along with them, more than anyone else.

I don't think we get LMA.... But it makes the most sense outside of any other team.

Only real options are to become one of the faces in LA as nobody knows how the transition will go, try to win a title with an aging Spurs team with no guarantee of how the team will turn out post-pop, Timmy era, or to join Harden and Howard with Rockets.

LMA with Rockets solidifies a big 3 prob for 3-4 years. Even if Howard leaves in 2 years we would have max room to pair with Aldridge and Harden. Long term with Rockets just seems to work.

Why does Dallas have an inside track? They just had to get rid of Ellis. So their pitch will be around teaming Aldridge with Parsons, Barea, Harris, and 37 year old Dirk. That's not even as good as his Portland team.

    Unless there's something I don't know?

The Rockets are always in the mix for any superstar. Not a surprise, but would be nice to see him get a chance to win a ring.. for the Rockets.

Everyday... We need to thank Cuban for taking Parsons off our hands... He legit made it harder for their team to bring in other players. DIRKS age, Parsons knee, role players whom aren't good enough too get them over hump.

Dallas is a bad free agency away from being truly irrelevant for a long time.

If it means losing brewer, smith, and ariza they can keep LMA.

He's a good guy, but its not worth giving up the key players to our success this past season over one strong guy at one position.

God forbid he comes here and breaks a bone in the preseason and sits out half the season. Then we're struggling to stay float worse than last year

Simple. he's from Dallas and it would be awesome to play basketball in your home town.

I'm not sure how driven LMA is on winning a ring, but he seems not to be as hungry as dwight was in free agency about a championship. LMA seems a little more about having fun while winning and being in a place he's happy (ie close to family)

How do you know this? And why do they have to be mutually exclusive? Two of the 3 Texas teams are contenders.

We can keep Ariza and let Smith/Brewer walk.

LMA just have to sign a 1 year contract (with a 2nd year player option). That way, he can opt out the same year as D12 (2016-2017) and we'll have more cap space to resign them both.

The only players on the payroll for 2016-2017 are Harden, Ariza, Capela (team option), Nick Johnson (expiring), Dekker (rookie contract) and Harrell (rookie contract).

So for us to be seriously entertaining LA, Morey must have deals lined up to clear cap space. Rumors?
