let's keep in mind that houston is the last one in that list and that kerr said he doesnt plan on trading him, meaning the chances are very very slim..
I wouldn't do this in a million years. McGrady's contract (whether by trade or by mere expiration) is this franchise's last significant chip by which to infuse young talent onto the roster. You can't throw that away for a guy turning 36 with a team not necessarily close to contending.
Yeah because trading Robert Horry and Sam Cassell for Charles "Past His Prime" Barkley back in 1996 was a really good move. If we would have kept those guys we would've won a 3rd ring in 96'. We need to stop trading our young talent for aging superstars who aren't going to around much longer anyways. It's really shortsighted.
Yeah, we want to keep the Rockets backcourt to 40% shooting. Adding a guard who shoots over 50% FG in every season for the last 5 years would hamper that goal.
Yes we want that, and we also want him to help teach Lowry how to make an assist. We could also draft a point guard this season or next and start developing our future starter or back up under Nash. How does this sound for a team? PG Nash/Lowry SG Battier/Barbosa/Barry SF Artest/Wafer PF Scola/Landry/Hayes C Yao/Pachulia If we had Nash, Barbosa, and Pachulia instead of T-mac(injured), Brooks, and Cook I think we could have toppled the Lakers and be on our way to playing Denver.
Call me crazy but I don't think he's worth giving up Brooks in order to obtain. Think about this: he'll be 36 by the time the playoffs roll around next year. 36! We all saw how badly the Mavs are regretting (whether they'll admit it or not) giving up a solid young piece in Devin Harris in order to obtain Kidd. Let's not make the same mistake with Nash. If he came cheap? Absolutely.
It really depends if we re-sign Yao. I definitely believe Nash will play at a higher level at the end of his career than Yao would if both re-signed for a 5 year contract. We re-sign Yao we need to sign Nash. It will be damn amazing if Yao is able to player after 3 years. His body can only take so much at size with pounding of the NBA.
Nash makes sense if you are going to make a run with McGrady and Yao. He can have the ball in his hands 90% of the time, allowing McGrady to move without the ball. He can also get the ball to Yao in the post. Any trade for Nash that loses either of those players, makes getting Nash not very important. The problem is you aren't going to get Nash unless you part with McGrady I think. If we go without McGrady next year, I'd like to run the pick and roll with Brooks and let him develop. He shows flashes of being an excellent scoring PG.
The owner is hurting for money and I gurantee he would trade Nash and Barbosa for that 20 mil expiring contract. Kerr would be made to do it if it landed on his table.
Great post. We need to keep at under 30 I think... Lets not make the same mistake the Mavs did. Devin Harris 4 Jason Kidd=Aaron Brooks 4 Steve Nash.
The most intriguing stat when it comes to Steve Nash: Code: Offensive Efficiency Rank: Rockets Nash's Team 2002 20th 1st 2003 14th 1st 2004 24th 1st 2005 14th 1st 2006 29th 2nd 2007 15th 1st 2008 17th 2nd 2009 15th 2nd
Man... I'm a big fan of Nash. I think the Rockets as a team could compensate for his defensive problems, especially since we've shown no ability to slow down elite point guards anyway. That said, the thought of acquiring him is so...I don't know...I'd just be lukewarm about it despite by high opinion of him as a player. I'd take a chance on him I think if I felt he was the best option out there for an upgrade.
Again, not saying we should get him, depends on what we'd have to give up, but the notion that he had a bad season with Shaq last year is silly. Look at his stats: 16 ppg 10 assists pg 50% FG 44% from 3s That's pretty good. How many PGs average 15+ ppg, 10+ assists, AND shoot 50% from the field? The answer? Two - Nash and Chris Paul.
Yeah not to mention the fact that Nash on this team would make Von,Landry,Scola look like all-stars Who want's that.
The people who continue to say that Shaq wasn't working in Phoenix must have quit watching them after the first week or so of that deal.
I never consider Nash need fast paced team to be successful as a true statement. When Rockets stopped Suns fast break, it usually was Nash who killed Rockets in half court by his penetration/dishing and shooting. Shaq just had a great year in Pheonix, I don't know why you say Shaq has struggle playing with Nash.
Brooks seriously bumped his trade value this postseason. Maybe we can show them the video of Joey Dorsey practicing his jump hook, too?
