Without other deals this trade helps Philly only (by deleting KVH, the perfect misfit for all teams, it seems). Spree 'duplicates' Manu while Rose 'duplicates' KT. I'd like Spree and Rose for Rox...why not just give them to Houston?
I don't think that Spree 'duplicates" Manu. I think offensively Manu is a better passer than Spree. Defensively Spree is a MUCH quicker and stronger defensive player. Now, as for Rose and KT. That seems like duplication. You have two undersized 6'7" PFs that pretty much do the same thing. Not sure what the attraction is there.
They don't mean starpower as in bringing fans to the building, they mean starpower as in matching up with other big name players, which Sprewell can do.
In this case, duplicates as in position not style of play. Or, Spree stays at 3 where he is not as good, and shows his age.
I wouldn't say Spree is MUCH quicker than Manu. Spree is stronger definitely and more physical on offense and defense. But I have seen both of these guys in person and Spree is no quicker, in fact Manu definitely has quicker hands. Also Spree use to be a little quicker back in his early Knicks and Golden State days. Spree is still a nice talent but im not sure Spurs improve THAT MUCH with him by giving away Rose. But who knows.
I guess 76ers lost patience with Van Horn. Rose is a good player, and he will be better in the East. But overall, 76ers is going nowhere no matter what. They don't have consistent offense. Knicks finally rid of Sprewell, and Van Horn has the size Knicks fans required. Doesn't Spurs lose size and power after this trade? Also, this doesn't seem to the best way to burn their cap room.
This trade won't happen. Spurs are likely to make a few free agent signings within the next couple of days.
ROSE is the best player of the three mentioned (ROSE, SPREE, Van HORN) cause he knows how to play. I don't see San Antonio making this move.
This is actually a pretty good trade for Spurs. Spree even at his age right now is a better player than Rose. He will immediately become the reliable 2nd/3rd scoring option Spurs desperately need in the 4th quarter. Plus, they get rid of Rose's overpaid loooooooooong contract. Spree's contract expires in 2 years, right at the time Spurs need money to throw at Parker. The Spurs may regret this move over the short term, but they will surely be happy two years from now when Spree's contract is off the books and Rose is entering Year 4 of his seven-year deal. It also makes sense for Philly. They get rid of KVH's big contract and significantly reduce the payroll. I think now they can freely use their MLE without worrying the luxury tax one bit. They win this trade in short term, hands down. Knicks well lost big time. They trade a contract expiring in 2 years for a contract expiring in 3 years AND also trade away the marketability of Spree. But what can you exactly expect from the Knicks??? Spree's soooooo popular at NY and means much more to the franchise than his playing ability. I can't believe they dare trade him. I predict that KVH will be soundly booed at MSG by the end of December.
Obviously you know nothing about knicks. They have been tring to get rid of Sprewell for two seasons. Knicks fans are tired of "play small". Didn't you watch the NBA draft this year?

The Knicks are trying to find a fourth team willing to be included in a complicated trade that would involve sending Sprewell to San Antonio and with the Knicks getting Keith Van Horn from Philadelphia, according to a person familiar with Scott Layden's thinking. Last week, there were reports that the Sixers would get Malik Rose from San Antonio but the Spurs have said they will not trade Rose, a backup power forward who also happens to be Tim Duncan's best friend on the team. It is unclear as to which club is the fourth team in the deal or whom the Sixers will get in the proposed trade. One Western Conference GM said yesterday the Knicks were close to trading Sprewell to the Spurs. However, a Knicks spokesman denied that a trade was imminent. Reached yesterday in at his home in Utah, Van Horn acknowledged being aware of the trade rumors but declined to comment. Layden, the Knicks' president and GM, yesterday was in Salt Lake City, where the Knicks' summer league team is participating in the Rocky Mountain Revue. He was unavailable for comment. Layden has tried to trade Sprewell since last summer and has turned down several deals, including a trade with Milwaukee that would have brought Glenn Robinson to Madison Square Garden. Robinson eventually was traded to Atlanta. Sprewell has two years remaining on his contract that will pay him $26 million. One of Sprewell's close friends said Sprewell maintains that he wants to finish his career in New York, but that Sprewell also believes there is a strong chance he will be traded. Sprewell is the team's most popular player but his relationship with management has been strained since April of 2002, when he failed to show up for a morning shootaround in Miami. Five months later, Sprewell arrived for training camp with a broken hand and was banished from the team for two weeks for failing to notify the club of his condition. He was also suspended for one exhibition game. Sprewell missed the first eight games of the 2002-03 season and the Knicks started the year 1-7. Overall, they were 37-45. On the last day of the season, during a press conference to announce Don Chaney's contract extension, several players were praised by Garden officials for their individual performances. And yet, Sprewell finished second on the team in scoring and steals and ranked third in assistants and fourth in rebounding. Many NBA scouts feel that if the Knicks swap Sprewell for Van Horn they will be sacrificing toughness for more scoring. The Knicks had no trouble scoring last season; they averaged 95.9 ppg., Their problem was stopping the other team from putting up an average of 97.2 ppg.
Spree would have to be leaving this offseason.. the knicks have offered him to so many teams, if he stayed it would only do harm to the team.. Van Horn going to NYK?.. damn their a joke of a team
