Not necessarily. Luis is my favorite Rocket, but I'd rather let him walk than overpay him.

Lets say the Nets sign him for 5/45 and the Rox acquire Al Jefferson...would the Rox match??? I have my doubts...

Since he is restricted, that means we could sign and trade him? But assuming its the nets that give him an offer, we can't sign and trade him to the nets right?

maybe a S&T forAl Jefferson is in order. Surely Luis would rather play in Minn.

Let's see if the Rockets start selling how Patterson is such a great interview and character or how Hayes is a superior defender.

personally i feel luis would take less to stay on the rockets

but not a whole lot less

if the offer was 9m per year i can see him stay here for 8m per year

but certainly not for less than 1m per year discount

i really hope he does stay here in houston scola is the type of player every fan loves, all out hustle, skilled and humble. in many ways scola personifies this team and unless we get a talent upgrade (bosh, amare) which it doesnt appear to be happening now i want scola to be here till he retires

They have, what, $18 million left in capspace after signing Outlaw? I don't think the Nets would be stupid enough to offer Scola anything more than $12 million and that's if their whole front office got drunk on Vodka.

Expect a big nasty toxic frontloaded contract from the Nets if there after Luis.

Perfect situation for Scola and the Rockets will be a 4 year deal. Let Hill develop behind him and as Scola gets older, more minutes are given to Hill.

Scola becomes expendable at that point

You have to wonder what all those teams with mega cap room are going to do with all the big FA's gone. I very much hope that snagging whats left in bidding wars that result in overpaying and bloated contracts is not what happens, but it certainly could. And in the case with Scola, this could cost the Rockets either the player himself, or force them to match a contract they really dont want to. I guess a 3rd option is Scola just decides he likes Houston too much and dont consider other offers.

I guess it comes down to the amount of desperation of teams with money to spend. Do any of them feel they have to get something, even a overpayed something in order to satisfy fan expectations of improvement? Do they play cool with their dough and wait to the trading deadline to make their move? Could the season already be doomed by then?
