http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/14308/the-nbas-fastest-man this article mentions AB, but it got me thinking who is the fastest player in the league? And where do you think AB actually fits in with that list. Another interesting mention was Kevin Martin. I knew he was quick but I didnt think he'd make it on the list. I think AB is in the top 10 but that is just my opinion. Also, here are the predraft sprint times: I dont think these are good measure on quickness in the game but i guess it gives you a idea who is supposed to be fast and who actually is fast in the game. Darren Collison 3.10 Ty Lawson 3.12 Tyreke Evans 3.15 Toney Douglas 3.03 Eric Gordon 3.01 Derrick Rose 3.05 Joe Alexander 2.99 Aaron Brooks 3.2 Mike Conley Jr 3.09 Rodney Stuckey 3.11 Ronnie Brewer 3.14 CJ Watson 3.15 Will Bynum 3.0 Nate Robinson 2.96 Monta Ellis 3.31 Chris Paul 3.22 LeBron James n/a Dwyane Wade 3.08
Wow @ Joe Alexander! I guess everyone was looking at how great an athlete he is and not if he is a good basketball player..
Exactly. It only matters how quick he is off the dribble and he can pretty much blow by anyone when he wants to. He's one of the best int he league in that regard. Unfortunately that sometimes gets him into trouble as we've seen.
I think AB said it best, he said he is not fastest but the quickest from the 3pt line to the rim. I am paraphrasing.
Brooks is indeed the QUICKEST guard in the league, being 'fast' is overrated as this isn't football. There isn't one player out of those who can stay in front of brooks but to be fair i don't think brooks can stay in front of many of them either...as far as offensive quickness and getting to a spot on the court ahead of a defender, no one is better than brooks.
Can Joe Alexander dribble that fast? I don't think so. Handles play such a big role. Nobody in the NBA is going to let you run straight into the basket. You have to use cross-overs, stutter-steps, etc. With that in mind, only a few players in the league are fast enough to change directions or accelerate quickly with the ball in their hand: Aaron Brooks, Derrick Rose, Dwayne Wade, Chris Paul, Monta Ellis, and Tony Parker (before his surgeries and injuries).
I was watching some of the Knicks game and what really caught my eye is how fast Toney Douglas is. That guy is a blur. He looked just as fast as Aaron Brooks does. I think what sets Aaron apart from the rest of these guys is his ability to change speeds and directions. He is usually very fast, but he has that moment where he kicks it into overdrive and really leaves everyone in the dust.
