The MWC, which has tried to get an automatic qualifier to the BCS to no avail, is seriously pursuing an agreement with C-USA to have a championship game between the two leagues. The idea would need NCAA legislative approval.

"The timing is perfect to be proactive and we are exploring consolidating the two leagues in football only," Thompson said.

Thompson said a sub-committee is expected to meet on the idea next week.

"We could have 22 teams (12 from C-USA and 10 from MWC), does it need to be 24? If so then the Mountain West needs two more members," Thompson said. "We don't know if there will be five or six or seven automatic qualifiers to the BCS."

C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky confirmed through a statement that the two leagues are working on this deal.

Crazy, but will only be worthwhile if there is an automatic qualifying spot on the line.

C-USA already has a championship game. Would they still have it and then would that champion play the MWC champ? If the MWC added 2 more teams, would they do the same?

4 division champs. 2 conference champs. 1 super mid major champ.

That almost sounds like ::gasp:: a playoff. (albeit not the one we want)

And I guess they're hoping that this super conference champ might be able to get an auto BCS bid?

For those who didn't click the link, the other notable factor is the MWC trying to get TCU to stay.

With the Big East losing Pitt, Syracuse and (likely) UConn, Rutgers and WVa, their automatic BCS bid looks like it'll go away...

Likely (football) remnants of the Big East if they merge with Big 12: USF, Cincy, TCU(?), Louisville, Iowa St., Kansas, Kansas St., Mizzou(?)

MWC + CUSA: Boise State, Air Force, Colorado St., New Mexico, UNLV, Fresno St., Nevada, Hawaii, Wyoming, San Diego St, UH, Southern Miss, East Carolina, UCF, UAB, Marshall, Memphis, SMU, Rice, UTEP, Tulane and Tulsa

Ugh... I suppose splitting BCS money with 24 schools is better than no BCS money at all.

The winning conference should take the pot. Really heat that title game up!

The four conferences all combine. Then they should have a full on double elimination tournament with the top 16 teams making the cut and getting to a BCS conference, with the other 14 relegated to a secondary conference. Then every year the bottom four from the top conference have the play the top four from the relegated conference allowing the relegated ones to move up when they have good years.

Seriously, just think about how much fun that would be, the money that could be gotten from TV contracts just for such a tournament and the fact that most of these teams will never compete for a BCS spot.

Why don't all of the football schools in CF just make one big 115 team league? Call it something like "The Huge College Football in All of America Conference". This is getting crazy.

Of course, Baylor would probably sue.

Just like Argentinian futbol leagues...right? I thought about this idea. Not sure how the rankings would work with such a short season. Interesting concept, though.
