Most of that money goes to the league, not the team. If he plays well, though, that bump in the asian market is probably good for his teammates (Harden/Howard/Parsons) in marketing themselves. Probably not bad for Les personally either.

Obviously you are new here. This is not a new subject at all, and has to be debunked once every few months. This is something that the Rockets have been falsely labeled with since they drafted Yao Ming.

There is no TV, Merchandising, advertising revenue that goes directly to the Rockets. EVERY dollar sold overseas goes to the NBA and is shared amongst the league and its owners.

The ONLY direct revenue the Rockets and Les can directly gain from the Asian market is the advertising signs inside the Toyota Center... which is something like no more than 2 or 3% of their revenue I believe... maybe less than that nowadays.

Lin, Yao, and Jianlian (to a much lesser extent) have been great for the league in general... not just the teams that have held their rights. Everyone benefits, and nobody benefits in the same token. If the revenue sharing was setup the way you stated, Jeremy Lin would be the most coveted player in the league.

Bet he has a break out year. Linsainity was a "perfect storm." We all need to forget it and let him become who he is now, for this team.

You can say the same thing about Omer Asik or Carlos Delfino. It's a team sport. Everyone contributed to wins that put us into 8th place.

I'm sure what he meant that Harden produced the most added wins to the team. It's true everyone contributed, but subtracting Harden would have resulted in the most number of wins lost. Although I think Omer was a very close second.

Not sure about that. We could always score prior to harden. it was the defense and rebounds that kept us from getting the 8th seed. Add Asik to
Lowry/gogi/lin+ Martin+chandler+ppat, and it's a playoff team. Obviously you want a championship, adding Howard, a game changer on defense will give you the best Opportunity. Asik was such an important piece. Still is.

Lowry and Dragic are both gone regardless of whether Harden joined this team or not.

The only contributing piece the Rockets had traded away for Harden is Kevin Martin, and Kevin Martin does not even come close to Harden in terms of production and impact.

You are correct, but there are some clarifications worthing noting:

    1. An individual player can bring more corporate sponsorships to a team. I went to a Lin event and Sam Hinkie told us that the access we had was extremely valuable and other people paid FAR, FAR more for the access to Lin that we were about to get.
    2. An individual player can save marketing dollars. A company that commits $30M to marketing may only need to commit $10M to marketing if its star player is constantly generating news. Put another way, if you look at the marketing/news that Jeremy generates, and figure out how much it would have cost to pay for that same amount of publicity, you have a starting point for understanding that he is indirectly bringing money to the franchise.
    3. Lin can be leveraged by Les into Asian corporate ventures or partnerships that are NOT under the Rockets umbrella, but are under Les' umbrella. Thus Les would benefit even if the Rockets would not.

So Lin/Yao, etc. don't bring as much money to the Rockets as most people would think (hence you are absolutely right in your post), but there are definitely side benefits that, for example, would make him monetarily worth more than his $8M salary even if his play is below that salary.

I think Les would trade Lin, but only for a clear path/clear upgrade to a Championship, not an incremental one.

We will see if he just an average point guard in 2 years..We know what he is capable of doing..just need to give him another year or so to improve his game..Ill give JLin another 2 season before labeling him an average or poor pg..Tony Park wasnt so good of PG when he first started and now look at him..
