The depth chart alone warrants the need IMO. Texans play a lot of 3 receiver sets and we pretty much only have 3 WRs on the current roster (I don't count Mumphery). But Strong's arrest could lead to a suspension and Shorts has missed 11 games in the past 3 seasons. Factor those in and I could see the Texans drafting one in the earlier rounds.
Weren't the Texans sniffing around on Travis Benjamin during the free agent period, even Tania Ganguli who is close to the team said that Texans need to address WR, someone who can take the top out of the defense. If you spend that much money on Brock Osweiler and put all your chips in for him, give him as many weapons as possible so he can be successful. Go Fuller at 22 then fill needs for depth at other positions.

I could see them taking one early, but I'll be surprised if it is in round one, depending on who is available. They have one good player on the defensive line (Watt) one solid player (Wilfork) and then a hole that if filled by the guy last year (Crick) is only meh. They seriously need a guy on the line OTHER THAN WATT that can do something other than hold his own. They need someone who can move the pocket. On the offensive line they have a guy coming off a devastating injury that was only "good" at this point anyway, not great, and that will likely be cut at the end of the year. (No guaranteed money next year). That's your left tackle. Your right tackle is a run blocker who gets hurt constantly, even if he plays through it, that is paid pretty handsomely. The rest of the line is "Just a guy" types. Team SERIOUSLY needs to invest in the lines. I know they need help at WR, but the guy they need is a speed guy who can return kicks. I think that can be found later in the draft. Benjamin was a perfect fit because he was a playmaker at WR and also a good return man. That's what they need. But they weren't willing to invest the same money they gave Miller. Fuller can't catch and can't play special teams.
Doctson is a guy I could seem them falling in love with to draft at WR because he has shown he can run the route tree. That's important for OBrien. The rest of the guys likely to be there in the 1st are just not guys who are sure fire starters on this team and they aren't special team aces. No way. DT is definitely a position they will address. I could see them taking Andrew Billings if he is there.
Agreed. Both lines should be addressed first. Crick is a UFA but think we could use an upgrade even if we decide to resign him for cheap. Jack Conklin (OT) would be a great pick if he is available.
I have a batch of guys: Jack Conklin, LaRaven Clark, Cody Whitehair, Andrew Billings, Vernon Butler, Corey Coleman, Josh Doctson, Huter Henry and I guess Jarran Reed though I'm not excited about him. That's my bucket for the first two rounds. If they managed to get two of those guys in the first 2 rounds I'd be thrilled to death.
Mine would be something like Conklin, Taylor Decker, Braxton Miller, Whitehair, Sheldon Rankins, Kenny Clark, Carl Nassib, Noah Spence, Hunter Henry, Josh Doctson, Corey Coleman, and Vernon Butler.
I don't think the Texans were really interested. Tania was just stating that it would be a good target/fit for the team. I'm fine with them passing on him, overrated imo. The best way to help Brock out is to make sure there are some experienced players around him who aren't trying to feel their way out themselves. That probably isn't happening as all the marquee free agent players on offense are pretty much accounted for.
The Texans continue to go hard interviewing OT's (late and early picks). Either OT is their #1 area of concern, or they are trying to make people think it is.
Pro Football Focus has Corey Coleman (WR) as the #1 underrated prospect in the draft. They accurately predicted Tyler Lockett's breakout season by ranking him the top graded WR last year. The Texans have invested so much in WR over the past few drafts, with a first rounder in Hopkins and then trading up for Strong last year. But if Coleman can be even a poor man's OBJ or Steve Smith, then The_Conquistador is fine with that. I'd also be OK with Cody Whitehair for the line, also mentioned in the article below, and someone who has been mocked to the Texans in other draft predictions. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/03/14/draft-10-most-underrated-nfl-draft-prospects-for-2016/
He couldn't run at the combine because of sports hernia surgery is why. In a track situation he's as fast as Will Fuller, and all the light shining on Fuller would be shared if he had run. Maybe a little slower in pads, but still fast. And he is able to fight for contested balls, which Fuller can't, and hes got some moves after the catch, which Fuller doesn't. Baylor's pro day is this week and Coleman should run then. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SqCkXpZvVrs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Think Joey Galloway.
Washington is trash, Shorts is too injury prone, Mumphrey is too slow the TE's are mediocre. The only good option for WR2 was Strong, before he got arrested. He was in the doghouse most of last year and now he gets arrested for weed. In addition to the league suspending him what will BOB do. It is a shame, I was expecting a breakout year for him. So yes a top 5 WR is essential for Os to have the weapons we want him to have.
Treadwell is dropping for a reason, he is not that good. If he is there I hope we leave him there. He is not even in the first or second tiers of wide receivers in this draft. It is more hype than talent. IMHO

CBS Sports .com agrees http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/...raft-texans-give-brock-osweiler-a-deep-threat Corey Coleman, WR, Baylor: Now that the Texans made the big investment in quarterback Brock Osweiler, they must provide him with weapons. Hopkins is a star who could find even more opportunities with a vertical threat like Coleman -- who led the country with 20 touchdowns last season -- drawing safeties deep.

The only reservation I have on Coleman is his 40 time. Scouts have said that he is quicker than fast. Also the offense he play at Baylor help inflate his numbers. He reminds me a lot of Kendall Wright, both 5-10 and both look unstoppable at Baylor. But Kendall has look mediocre so far in his NFL career with the Titans. If he can run a good 40 in his pto day, that will help a lot.
