What team wants his 12.5 mill salary on the books? Even contending teams can't afford him

Max contract is a bit much but maybe his potential is diluted under Kevin Durant.?

Name one rookie who would demand to be the main guy for a team that has Durant and Westbrook.

Sure, the Thunder could decide to pay him and spend millions in luxury tax or Harden might even accept a paycut to help this team. Would be surprised he does. Most players would want the most money they can get at this young stage of their careers. I also doubt a small market team would pay that amount of money on luxury tax. In the end, its still a business.

    80% chance they trade Harden
10% chance they pay him and succumb to harsh taxes
10% odds Harden agrees to a smaller contract
    0% odds they amnesty Perkins

That's just me though. What do i know right? :)

oh i see. in theory, possible, just not realistic unless they amnesty Perkins. Martin would have to sign for considerably under midlevel, which he won't unless he declines.

You will see soon enough. Talk to you again at the trade deadline.

Given how these FA signings and trades have gone for us the past few years.. I actually don't entertain these thoughts as much as i used to and avoid the inevitable disappointment. Lets just wait and see what happens.

What exactly do you even want to happen with the rockets? Seems like all you do is whine

We've heard this song and dance one too many times. Even if he signs, they'll match so no need to get our hopes up.

Hence why you would TRADE for him before the February deadline. If OKC decides not to trade him, and playout the season, he's staying in OKC, and the free agent signing is just a formality.

Stars attract stars... Harden, Lin and Co. would be attractive to other players.

The Mavs just got OJ Mayo. Why would they want only a minor upgrade for such a big price?

It would be more likely that we'd give them youth + picks than Martin.

Say we get Harden, they get Lamb, Jones, Patterson, Tor pick, Dal pick.

That presupposes Lamb/ Jones/ Patterson show themselves to be worthwhile this season.

Whether or not we want to admit it, Harden will definitely get the max and is as close as a sure bet to be a superstar as any other avenue we have to pursue.

Same reason why Houston would want him over Kevin Martin. They have the cap space going forward, and need a star.

Actually, on paper Harden might not even be an upgrade from Martin to be quite honest. But, he's a young star player that you can run your offense through in crunch time.

It would make more sense to think this way in terms of a Harden deal, but your forgetting one major aspect...

The Thunder are in the middle of a championship race right now, and replacing Harden with prospects and assets isn't going to fly to ownership and their fanbase, even if its a killer deal.

First and foremost, Presti's goal is to win a championship however he can as soon as he can. That's why the Kevin Martin thing keep's getting thrown back in.
