This list is r****ded. +30 for championship, -100 for relocating? Seriously? So he would have the rockets ranked higher if they had 0 rings and had originated in Houston? John Hollinger is an idiot who thinks hes alot smarter than he really is.
Well since he includes the ABA stats in his formula at half the NBA's value, Indiana's 3 ABA titles puts them only 15points back in the title department. Also, even with the Rockets 2 NBA titles, the Pacers have a better record in the playoffs and do not suffer the relocation penalty. In any case, is the Rockets being ranked 10th really that big of as deal?
Yes, it is....A team that has had so many of the all-time greats to be ranked as "slightly above average" is just disgusting...especially for Hollinger's "reasons"
I would say so, but I try to be objective. His ranking doesn't affect my opinion of the Rockets. In my opinion there are 4 teams cemented ahead of the Rockets and then the next 5 spot are up for grabs. There are arguments for each team so I wouldn't be concerned if someones' rankings differ than mine. Also, as it been mentioned, top 10 isn't bad(especially when considering that the Rockets had the relocation penalty assessed to their score)
"Half decent" is too harsh. I think you should consider this: Would you rather have one championship and then such for a decade, or would you rather be a perennial contender (exciting deep playoff runs) but never won a ring? It's not an easy choice. I think I'd rather have a shot at the title every year.
But the thing is you wouldn't have a shot at a title every year, because it is the past, not the present. Either you won the title or you didnt. Its not like saying "would you rather spend the next 15 years of your career on a team that will always be a playoff team (outcome of the playoffs unknown) or on a team that will win one title and have a losing record the other 14 years). What I am saying is if i were looking back on my career I would rather have won a ring that have been close every year...I would rather have been on the rockets from 1990-2002 than the Jazz during those years.
