Does Brewer know anything about playing good defense?

Based on his shoe design, it would probably look like one of those NBA Street volume 3 generic set designs..

LOL, first, your analogy is extraordinarily terrible. If you are rich enough to have a mansion and a trophy wife, her cooking skills are incredibly irrelevant to the state of affairs. "I guarantee you Melania can not only make an Omelet, she makes THE BEST Omelet, believe me, the BEST!"

Second, Harden "has to have a teammate confirm on live TV" this thing? Nobody "has to have" ****-all done, least of all for the likes of challenged analogy peddlers such as yourself.

The criticism of Harden and his defense has been much discussed - both data based analysis and other players have begun to push back against the absurdity of the "Argument by Vine" approach and the resulting narrative, which, unsuprisingly, tends to aggregate around the poles, resulting in turdburgers like you just served us.

As well they should - there is no "has to have" - we live in a different age. Nobody *currently* or back then ever applied 1045% effort on every single possession and it simply wasn't recorded, or ot the extent it was, it was in the eyes of a more hagiographical, chummy media and then reprinted several days later. Who cares? None of this "has to" be done, it's simply a reaction to something happening now, which is not what happened then, becuase now, is not then, which is what makes it now, and not then.

Third, good lord, max effort on every single possession ever? Only a complete idiot would think this is what the Rockets (or any team) is handing out when they invest large sums of money in a player. They want effort to be *optimized* to *maximize* their chances at winning. So does anybody, who deals with finite resources, on anything ever, when attempting to achieve an optimal outcome. This is just basic welfare maximization.

You would know before you married that broad if she cooks or not. Same with James, nobody expected him to be a real good defender coming in. Can he play better defense, yes, should he in order for this team to be serious contenders, hell yes. It's not the amount of money the team decided to pay him that will determine if he plays better defense, its on him to do it.

I think having more scoring help will allow him to give more effort on defense versus last year where he knew he had to do it all on offense for this team to even have a chance. So we will see

His defense was terrible and it is cringeworthy to see teammates go on tv and say stuff like this.

A lot of it was conditioning IMO, never really seemed to get in shape after starting off the year 30 pounds overweight.

A bit off topic but don't know where else to ask.

Does anyone have the stats on the league leaders in ball possession. I believe this was used to refute the point that Harden held on too the ball too long.

It'd be cooler if an actual GOOD player said, "Harden is going to play defense this year, OR ELSE."

If he's going to play defense THIS year, then why wasn't he playing defense LAST year? It's just talk at this point.

Good rebuttal - you must have been on a debate team at some point in your life. I enjoyed the quoted comment, "Argument by Vine". But it speaks to what you were saying in that nowadays, they load up on data and analyze it to the nth degree, yet they use snapshots (or Vines in this case) to defend their interpretation of the data.

This board isn't going to be able to handle it when harden plays defense but his points and assists go down.
