It sounds sort of abrupt. Wouldn't they normally wait until the season is over? I wonder if he was stalking Suzy Kolber. http://www.nypost.com/sports/espn_fires_reynolds_sports_andrew_marchand.htm ESPN FIRES REYNOLDS By ANDREW MARCHAND July 25, 2006 -- ESPN yesterday fired analyst Harold Reynolds from Baseball Tonight, sources told The Post. The reason was not immediately known. "We are not going to comment," ESPN VP Josh Krulewitz said. When asked how they are going to explain that Reynolds will never be on the air again, Krulewitz still declined comment. Reynolds did not return calls. Reynolds, 45, had been with ESPN 11 years. He had been a fixture on the show, which is a gathering spot for baseball fans, players and team executives. The program already is dealing with the loss of information man Peter Gammons. Gammons is recovering from a brain aneurysm that occurred at the end of last month. The show's main analysts had been Reynolds, Gammons and John Kruk. In Gammons' absence, ex-Met GM Steve Phillips has played a bigger role on the show. The program uses several analysts, including Orel Hershiser, Tino Martinez and Jeff Brantley. Last night, host Karl Ravech was joined by Kruk and Phillips. Reynolds usually is on Monday nights. Reynolds was known for a smooth style that usually was player friendly. He never found himself in too much controversy for what he said on the air. In fact, ESPN was so high on him he was expected to stay with the network through its just signed eight-year deal with MLB. Now, after yesterday, Reynolds is no longer welcome in Bristol.
This is out of nowhere. Obviously something happened. It's a shame, I always liked Harold Reynolds (as an analyst). He was the consummate professional, nice guy, but still had pretty good analysis.
Reynolds is an idiot. Everyone knows you can't be an effective analyst without screaming and blowing smoke up everyone's ass.
Wow. Totally unexpected. I wonder what happned. I always liked Reynolds because he just talked about baseball and didn't have some ****ty schtick like Berman.
My sentiments exactly... I hated the people on that show to begin with and Reynolds was probably the only guy who gave slightly level headed in his analysis. Everyone else really is just all fluff.
Damn, that sux. I guess they are going to have to find someone to coach the All-Star game softball game.
Harold will go the Fox Sports like a lot former fired ESPN members go. Jeannie Zealasko and Kevin Kennedy are horrible.
that would be a gigantic upgrade. i'm not a fan of any of the guys on baseball tonight....i find them to be anything but objective. steve phillips is an absolute joke. but zealasko and kennedy are just awful.
I'm not particularly a fan of Reynolds, but this move (along with Gammons being out) means more of John Kruk and Steve Phillips, which is a bad, bad, bad thing. The state of baseball commentating is in really poor shape right now. Fox is awful, ESPN is awful, the only thing I can stand to watch anymore are the games themselves.
Man that about as surprising as when ESPN let David Aldridge go, maybe they'll try and shoehorn Scream A. Smith in there now
