Did anyone get up on the Equifax free credit monitoring? I signed up a week ago and have heard crickets. I guess that's what happens when they get millions of submissions. Also, read something about Credit Karma offering free service or something. Need to investigate.
Senators don't control the IRS but the heart of what u say is probably true. Crony capitalism at its finest.
I believe I overheard my wife saying that part of the terms and conditions of signing up for that was that you waive the right to ever come after Equifax.......it's a release and hold harmless. Not worth it.
That's old news. It was that way in the beginning. But, they changed it shortly after that controversy to remove all that because of all the blowback/complaints. They clearly state that you still retain the rights to go after them if you sign up for their free credit services.
Government contracting is a long process. The evaluation and decision-making was probably done long before the Equifax hack was ever made public. I doubt Equifax has any more lobbying influence than Experian or Transunion.
Sadly, this means they are all horrible, IRS didn't do a good job of evaluating Equifax's security, or IRS has very lax security standard. I find the IRS response that their data with Equifax was not breached irrelevant. We already know Equifax failed at basic security. You have to convince yourself that Equifax has overhauled its security system (at least audited by external security experts). The contract should be pulled until that is done.
