I was thinking if that pick ended up in the 20’s

Good point on the pick. I was thinking too positively. I'm wondering if even a 20'ish pick would be too high. I was just looking at mock drafts, and most barely have him in the top 35-50 picks (2nd round). Eh, we'll see. If he ever becomes what he was supposed to be coming out of high school, he'll be top-3 to top-5 material, but it's all potential right now, I guess.

Emoni Bates screwed himself leaving high school a year early and playing as a 17 year old in college- especially at Memphis.

His poor performance as a freshman and decision to transfer to a smaller school really screwed him in the eyes of a lot of people.

He is averaging around 20 points a game and only turned 19 like a month ago. This should be his freshman season, and if he was playing as he is, as a freshman, he would be a top 10 pick.

I still think he likely goes in round one and can move up after the combine if his numbers are good.

His issue is that he is limited defensively and if he isn’t scoring, he isn’t making a huge impact.

He is a very gifted scorer though and I think teams have him higher than the media.

That's a big mistake. He should of stay at least another year to refine his skills before going to the big show.

I feel like his ceiling is Jamal Crawford.

He has below average athleticsm and below average wingspan for his height. Has a scoring bag but on those traits ya that's the best outcome for him. More than likely he will be out of the league after his rookie contract.

That is probably true, but I would take a flyer on him in the late first round. This draft really lacks depth, and he does have solid length and should become a good shooter and has a knack for scoring.

Personally I think he should have transferred to a team like UH or another top D-1 school and tried to become an elite scorer - he could have gone a lot higher.

Negative wingspan with worse speed and agility than noted athlete Drew Timme. I'm serious.

Emoni's numbers from his Memphis Pro Day. Drew's from last years combine

    3/4 Sprint
    Emoni: 3.72
    Drew: 3.38

    Lane Agility

    Emoni: 12.882
    Drew: 11.71

    Reaction Shuttle

    Emoni: 3.47
    Drew: 3.31

I'm sure he'll get a bit stronger and faster as he matures, but this is bad. Especially in comparison with other wings. Skill can mitigate deficits in athleticism, but I think there is a baseline level of athleticism that needs to be met to stay on the court.

He can make tough shots, but mainly due to the fact that those are the only looks he can get. He doesn't even make them efficiently. And that's against below average D1 talent.

Wouldn't be surprised if he goes undrafted.

That, combined with mediocre shooting for a supposed shooter, doesn't bode well.

Well, that's nice. What made his time at E. Michigan so bad and make him lose his love for basketball? He's saying it was because he was in the spotlight?

Really? I thought the draft was insanely deep esp since so many solid prospects fell to bottom of 2nd round.

Trace Jackson Davis is basically a 23 yr old KJ Martin fell to the 57th pick or something like that.

He is extremely thin, it would be good if he bulked up just a little.
