http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=txwarriorsellissuspended&prov=st&type=lgns how does that work when he'll already be injured a month into the season? why not just suspend him for about the 1st 15 games of he'll be physically able to play? or does that extra suspended games act as hes "suspended w/o pay"?
this way they don't have to pay him while he's injured, if they wait to suspend him till he's healthy it hurts the team....
rafer gets nothing for slashing a guy in a nightclub the late eddie griffin gets nothing for jerking off in his car but monta ellis get suspended 30 GAMES for falling off his moped? where amazing happens
moped may also be known as a motor scooter i believe. what im wondering is that i counted the season games and 30 games would mean hes suspended up to the washington game(dec25th) not the indiana(dec17th) game. why would the suspension stop at the 26th game into the season?
nvm i guess the suspended games will be counted along with the 4 preseason games left on their schedule
For all you people saying he's not actually being punished, OR that this is WAY overboard, two things: 1) yes, even though he is going to be injured for the games that he's suspended, he is now not going to get a PAYCHECK for those games either. So really, he IS being punished 2) It is not an overboard punishment because he VIOLATED THE TERMS OF HIS CONTRACT. If he got away with this scott-free, what lesson would he have learned to not do something foolish like this in the first place? I think the Warriors handled this perfectly.
There's nothing wrong with jerking off in your car. It's not a contract violation of any kind. I think in the end Rafer wasn't found guilty of anything(I think) Now they don't have to pay him since he got injured doing something stupid.
he violated the specific clause prohibiting him from riding on a motorcycle or moped. that could have voided his contract completely if the Warriors chose. then he lied about it. Paragraph 12 of the NBA Uniform Player Contract reads as follows:
Very brave and bold of the Warriors. They realize that this hurts their team but it is taking the stand. Monta just ruined any chance that his team had at getting to the playoffs.
i agree, the warriors definitely had to punish him, or else they would be essentially be saying, "we're scared punish you because you are our star player, you're allowed to take some latitude with the stipulations in your contract." but the warriors had to punish him in a way that wouldn't permanently sour his attitude towards the organization - he still has star potential once he recovers and is not the face of the franchise. by taking away some money from him, but not all, they stayed in the happy medium.
An NBA player can jerk off in their car and then slash a guy in a nightclub in the same night, it's up to team discretion. When you do something that is forbidden in a contract, it's a contract violation.
don't you see the irony? it's ok to bring your club's name and the sport in disrepute but a precautionary clause in a contract is breached...BAM! half your working season is gone...i think it's more about establishing a moral consistency when it comes to handing out decisions rather legality of it...
