Having Harden hold the ball for 20 secs and ISO the majority of them time isn't team ball. Watch the games when Harden was injured and sat out and tell me that we don't look like we are playing better team ball. We share the ball much more when we don't rely on Harden. And I'm not putting it all on Harden. Same thing happened when we had T-Mac. Everyone else just sits there and waits and watched him do his thing. Solution is to put the ball in a real playmakers hands- Lin- and let him get some motion and dictate who is best set up to make a shot. Many times it will be Harden but the rest of the guys will get more touches and we won't be so predictable and stagnant.

i'd like to see your poll of GM in the NBA that actually voted in this so called
    measure you just stated.

Yes there are Lin only fans out there no question. And truth is that Miami didn't become interesting until Lebron James came to take his talents to south beach. There is a sense of bandwagon and front running in sports. But the NBA doesn't care, it creates $ for the league when LBJ creates drams and Lin does well for the Chinese fan base.

I think there are rockets fans that would like to see Lin start. But they are realizing that won't happen because of the decision of the front office to start PBEV over Lin. That is the way the cookie crumbles. We will if it pans out

I think we all understand what you are trying to say but others are pointing out the flaw in your argument.

You are right in that the big problem is Harden and or McHale in the way the offense is being run through Harden with lots of iso's/ball hogging.

But the flaw is that you assume that putting Lin in Bev's slot would result in the same stats for the PG position and what everyone is pointing out is that this is wrong. If you look at Lin's stats from last year they were already better than Bev's stats this year. Throw in the fact that Lin has improved and you can see that there really is no debate.

Yes Harden/McHale is a huge part of the problem, but playing Lin instead of Bev would have a positive impact.

Lol. Makes so much sense. Starting is not important so this is a great solution. Harden to the bench.

    Nova,

As of right now if you put Lin in bev's spot things would not change as drastically as people think. Lin needs the ball and in this current offense that is not going to happen.

As for last year, i can go pull post where a lot of Lin fans were pissed at Harden and Lin... I'f i'm not mistaken that is where the Fire McHale campaign came from.

If the offense was run as it should be run I think Lin would flourish, but I would still use him as the 6th man, the same as we did with Cassell in the 90's. It's not always about starting... Cassell did not start and he did major damage and was a big reason that the Rockets won their rings. Lin can have that same type of impact on the team in the 6 man role.

But foremost the offense and the mentality of the team has to change.

I think it would, but that's my opinion. You can have yours which is fine. Just don't be dogmatic to the point of annoyance.

For optimum flow, I think that Lin needs to start at PG and let the offense flow through his hands. I think the rest of the team-mates trust Lin's decision making ability moreso than Beverley or Harden. Casspi and Garcia, Jones, Howard, and even Beverely looked good with Lin as the facilitator and the letting the specialists knock down shots or get clean look at baskets within 5 feet.

We can debate this all day, but we know it is up to McHale. And he has already made up his mind. The Rockets organization clearly supports McHale that is how the cookie will crumble. Now it is just a matter of waiting to see the results and evaluating the Rocket's team strategy this year.

Actually you are very mistaken. Just like the fake Bev is a "legendary defender" rep some have here there is this false believe that Lin is responsible for the fire McHale campaign.

On the contrary Lin is responsible for sparing McHale criticism the same as Lin is responsible for letting Bev get away with being the worst starting PG in the league.

The fire McHale campaign was universal among Rockets fans and started during McHale's first season here BEFORE LIN OR HARDEN were members of the Rockets.

You can look at the "fire McHale thread". It was basically 100% of Rockets fans who wanted McHale outta here.

Because McHale likes to put Lin on a short leash, the critic of McHale has gone way down. You can't attack Bev or McHale anymore or you'll be labeled an only fan now a days. Even 99ers are called only fans for wanting Lin to start.

McHale is a mediocre head coach but no one dare attack him for that anymore.

Before Rockets fans could side with Lowry over McHale but now you can't say anything bad...

So fire McHale campaign is pretty much what all Rockets fans wanted 3 seasons ago when Jeremy was a member of the NYK during linsanity and Jeremy and his fans are all of a sudden responsible for fire McHale lmao.

This is how a mediocre Bev is hyped as a legendary defender here. Anything to attack Lin and justify him playing as little PT as possible and coming off the bench.

    Rock,

I think with the right format Lin and Bev both could succeed... But what i'm continually stated is that with the CURRENT offense and not the what IF'S.. Meaning as you stated IF the offense flowed thru Lin, then yes putting Lin in place of Bev could make a huge difference...

But as of now with the CURRENT offense with the way it is, the possibility of putting Lin in place of Bev could do more damage than good... Lin could go back to being complacent, he could go back to being frustrated and trying to force things... So with the current offense it's best for Lin to come off the bench where he can come and be the spark plug and do his thing while Harden gets his rest.

Lin and Bev play good together and feed off of one another, this is why I keep saying it's not a Lin vs Bev thing. As you stated this is McHale's show and he can do as he pleases but the issues go deeper than just the pg position.

The offense DID NOT flow through Lin last year. It flow through Harden and yet Lin started all 82 games, led the team in apg over Harden, and his season ranks in the top 5 for most apg in Rockets history.

It would be the same this year but Lin's apg would be a little higher because he is a better PG now. All this if Lin is healthy.

The ball does not go to Howard a lot. It rarely does and only when he is in position to dunk the ball. In fact having howard here allows Lin 1-3 more apg if he were allowed to start and play starter min. Howard only gets 10.7 FGA and last season Asik got 7.5 FGA

Is that change realistic and if so how may it come about?

point taken. I disagree with some your assertions, but it was well said. Whatever happens, let's hope the basketball gods will bring good luck to this riddled team.

I'm a big Lin fan, and I'm fine with Lin coming off the bench.

What I'm not okay with is this lingering feeling that Lin is not really a 6th man, and that if the starting lineup is playing well, Lin could easily see his minutes reduced to 15-20 a game.

So long as the team's plan is built with him getting 30+ minutes every game, then I'm fine whether he starts or not.

As Rock stated it's up to McHale.....

The team has to change on both offense and defense...

In the preseason the offense was successful, because they were playing defense... Team defense...

The attitude of the team especially it's star player sucks... Most of the players will follow Harden's lead, if he plays selfish then that attitude flows down hill with the rest of the players...

So realistically, can the change happen? YES...

Will the change happen? Totally up to Mchale and Harden.

The coaches play Lin in an all-or-none manner. Either 42+ minutes when they really, really need him. Or 20 something when they don't. It's like he's the team's not-so-secret weapon.

Well, here's what happened last season. P Pat, now traded, said enough of Harden hogging the ball pretty much publicly, things have to change to make our offense better. I think the team had a few players-only meetings. If a player like Dwight says the same thing and wants more of Lin or Parsons at times to facilitate and Harden to scale back his role, that may bring about a change. I think I'm saying the players may spark a change. McHale or Harden on their own won't.

Only time will tell... I keep stating that no matter what pg we have now or in the future; if things don't change it want make a difference.... The issues go far deeper than Lin or Bev.
