I'm saying China needs a revolution. I hope it's a peaceful coup or better yet, the existing government makes massive changes to their fear based rule. Yao deserves better than to be oppressed for the rest of his life.

How long can people live without any input to how they're governed? How long do they have to watch the rest of the world be able to express themselves and not be able to speak their minds.

You come on bro.. you know I'm right. The Chinese government is a bunch of bullies. The Chinese people deserve better.

this is so unfair to Yao

Morey put him in a position he never asked to be in

Do u know what would happen to Yao if he spoke up for Daryl Morey? Yao ain’t trying to find out. It would be a wrap for him. This is basically saying that we should punish and admonish Yao because he’s not willing to risk his livelihood or bring potential harm to himself and his family. I doubt anyone here would be publicly speaking up for Morey if they were in China, especially if they were in Yao’s position. For all we know, he could be trying to make peace behind the scenes, but Yao’s priority is his family like anyone else. Who can blame him?

Do I think a man is capable of standing up to a regime? Absolutely.

Would I have stood with George Washington on the battlefields in New York against the British just because I couldn't speak my mind? Absolutely.

Not all men with families are cowards. What does all of Yao's money and fame buy him? Another car? Another house? Another stadium? And he's not free to express himself inside ANY of those things.. that may not hold much value after a while because that's just material.

So Yao lives in complete fear of expressing his thoughts. Gotcha.

    Imagine living like that.

Click the history, you said it after Butler chose the Heat like it was any of their fault for that.

Am I child? Sure, everyone should strive to hold onto a semblance of our childhood in our heart and it should stay unless you let the world take that away from you. I hope you have memories of happiness that stick with you for eternity.

Not expecting him to give up everything over this. Hopefully he has the freedom to stay silent.

You can play arm chair martyr all you want
Unless you are put in the same situation that’s a different story

personally I don’t want to see Yao harmed and not for a tweet either

if you blame him for not turning into Nelson Mandela than that’s your unrealistic expectations

He didn't. This topic was misconstrued and maybe the title did it no justice. Yao was probably forced to denounce the Rockets through the CBA. I was trying to discuss if his legacy is overstated as his cultural impact clearly was.

Well, we are all on an anonymous message board. Easier making proclamations when no one can really attack you. Do you really think Yao should put his family at risk to back a DM tweet that Morey isn't even backing at this point?

Now you know why HK protesters fight China with every ounce of their fibers. To be extradited to China means an absolute doomed for you.

As far as I am aware, Yao himself has not made a public statement. I suspect that he is more a figurehead if the CBA, but I could be wrong.

that’s the reality of his situation tho...none of us are in his position so it’s easy to say that he should do this or that

Who knows what could happen to him if he didn’t denounce Morey.

Yao should risk it all because Morey fcked up not realizing how much backlash his tweet would receive? If something happens to Yao and/or his family, what are we gonna do? Be on CF talking about “free Yao” or “fck China” impacting nothing while Yao is suffering? Most people are just trying to provide for and protect their family, not become some martyr overnight.
