Im curious what people think would have happened to EG if we drafted him after Yao? What if EG was drafted this season? would things have turned out different? Was he just messed in the head? I think w/ Yao/Tmac here he would have been much happier and possibly a decent career. I thinK EG mentioned that the Rox had too much of a clique and I guess he wasnt a part of that inner circle.. must be tough on a young kid. The rox now seem to accept everyone regardless if your the star or the towelboy. J
If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle... EG was overhyped and overrated, which is why he fell to #7. He's just not a very good player.
EG's personal problems had nothing to do with the Rockets being a "clique" (as he called them). He is a head case, pure and simple, and was just trying to blame his problems on the team. His issues predated coming into the NBA. If he ever publicly admits how much he messed up his opportunity and takes full responsibility for his actions, I will respect him as a person. Until then, he is one of sorriest guys to ever play in the NBA, IMO.
Even if he were happier, he'd still be a weak PF who spent too much on the three point line and not enough in the paint. I don't see how being part of the Steve/Cat/Moochie group would have made him any better as a player.
If he was drafted this year and was happier he still wouldn't be as good an option for us as Swift is right now.
I think that if EG had blossomed into what he should have been then the Rockets wouldnt have T-mac or Yao. Ill let u fill in the blanks.
Wouldn't have made any difference, just look what he did in NJ and Minnesota. Whole new cast of characters and his numbers are about the same as when he played with the Rox. The guy does have athletic ability and maybe his game can improve because he is still young. He will stick in the NBA if can keep his head screwed on straight but T-Mac and Yao would not have made any difference.
eddie griffin deserved to go where he did-- wish he didnt mess himself up though and i think he would have been real good... was he worth the richard jefferson trade thoguh?.. i dont think so
umm... the whole point of my thread was to discuss how the right situation helps grow people or hamper their development. EG seems to be doing much better in Minny and now that Spree/Sam are gone he might have more of a chance to showcase himself. People say Jordan ruined Kwame's confidence. I think SF3/Cat really helped bring Yao along.. What do you think? J
Weird how things worked out, isn't it? We ended up with a BETTER version of EG. Much more upside, less downside.
Yeah, SF3/Cat are great teammates on a personal level, and EG still manages to not get along with them. Really makes you wonder...
