the visit seems almost like a formality usually, numbers agreed upon ahead of time

If the Texans can pull off Ed Reed because of Andre, and do it at a rate that would still leave money to sign a mid level free agent at a need position (Amendola or someone like Maluaga, although I suspect he'd be too exepensive), well, all all the more reason to build a statue of Andre at Reliant (and to lraise Rick Smith).

IMO, i don't think Reed is using us as leverage like Orlando Pace or Bodden. He wouldn't be talking/using his friend Andre Johnson if it was just for leverage.

The texans know he's a superstar at safety, they won't low ball him. Expect a 2 year/8 million contract.

DB's have used us for leverage in the past.

Who has played those games since we were relevant? This looks like a slam dunk to me. Reed ain't leaving without a contract

But I guess Quin was using the lions as leverage against us today too

So if we do sign Reed who plays the strong safety role? Manning & reed both traditionally play the free safety role and roam the backfield. I would rather have cut manning & signed both GQ & reed.

I know I know... Wade system uses safeties interchangeably:rolleyes:

I thought Manning was considered our strong safety?

I think this was a result of Quin's coverage ability on TE's.

The Texans own depth chart listed Manning as SS and Quin as FS.

Ed reed doesn't want to go back to the ravens. That defense isn't the same with all the players their loosing. Ed is a good friend of AJ. I think AJ will restructure his contract. AJ & Shaub don't have much time left and the texans know it. There going in this free agency to win now.

I wouldn't be surprised if letting quin go was the plan all along and go after reed.
Also the texans are linked to Nambdi who they tried to get a few years ago.

Drop Daniel manning put Kareem Jackson in his place ( ala what we did with Quinn)
Sign reed and Nambdi and have the best secondary in the nfl. Coach Phillips could blitz everyone.

Then maybe draft an ILB or move reed to ILB and draft an OLB to replace barwin.

Al we need now is a 2wr.

how can we guarantee nnamdi will perform well though? i think danieal is crucial to the secondary..he made a lot of huge plays..

besides, i'm hearing the 49ers are likely to get nnamdi..

if we keep kareem, jjo, manning, reed...we have a great secondary..top 5 in the league..and i think there's a lot of fuel left in these guys...

we do need to address the right side of the line, a second wr, and possibly...a QB..

It seemed like the texans played manning less this season. I seemed to recall myself yelling at the tv asking why Keo was in the game. Don't get me wrong Keo is a great special teams player but that's it. Perhaps manning is slipping with age. I just think Kareem could slide to safety wi ease.
