Ebola has already mutated to an airborne virus -- it just happened to be lethal to monkeys not humans -- but humans did contract the virus through airborne contact.

So, you're saying that mutation has been ineffective?? That's my point: the virus will mutate to less deadly state according to survival of the fittest theory.

Yes, let's allow Ebola to run its course and hope it becomes less virulent.

Egypt. I enjoyed the ruins. It was weird to go into the center of the Great Pyramid (getting there is a trip in itself) and feel a cool, almost cold breeze, when outside it was over 100 degrees fahrenheit. You're very, very far from the entrance. Whoever designed the damn thing was a mad genius.

The Hot Zone -- mentioned earlier in the thread -- an airborne mutation of Ebola in the US.

Of course not, its all random. Virus replication is an extremely simple process though and open to a lot of error. They are produced at such a rapid rate that it also leaves the door open for mutations that will ensure a higher chance of survival. The HIV virus specifically targets CD4 cells, so that probably prevents it from being airborne and being transmitted through respiratory droplets (in addition to its fragile state). The ebola virus infects a wide range of cells, especially endothelial cells which are found lining surfaces. I believe it has also gone airborne before.

Morocco. Because Tangiers is a 90min ferry ride to Europe and you can say you've been to Africa without having to see the HIV/Ebola/Famine/Albino Hunting parts.

They have the facilities, they keep a stock of every nasty virus/bacterium that you can think of (one of 2 or 3 known places in the world that have smallpox), but they don't actively work/play with ebola-types unless asked to, like in an outbreak like we see now.. The Galveston facility and USAMRIID are the main places for "tropical disease" research.

    Evacuate Katy.

I'm a sucker for apocalyptic stuff, that was a great book! Needs to be made into a great mini-series.
